started to think chromexcel is a meme. It was made for bearings and machine parts, gaskets and such. So I gather the fashion is to wear them for a few months until they start to wear out, and this is what looks "good." I suppose its nice if you can never scuff your feet, but c'mon there has to be something better.

CXL is a meme that isn't a meme. It's soft, so break in is a breeze usually, it stretches nicely as well and thus makes for a very comfortable boot. My best fitting and most comfortable boots I own are made of CXL.
The issue is the high likelihood of bad creasing/loose grain and the finish coming off. Some people love the scuffs, and it's something I have accepted and embraced. Black CXL is a tea core leather and the black on brown actually looks pretty cool.
CXL isn't for everyone, but I like it. I didn't at first but now I do.

Speaking of CXL, is the guy who got the burgundy White's MPs here? How are they breaking in?

It depends on what you want the boots for? Dressy casual boots or something you can go hiking in and work in a garage and stomp fools with?
Check out the Merchants (the ones in the OP pic) for a nice in-between of casual and rugged.

>> No.14605779

>>14605776
Why? It's just a different dying process is all. Some leathers are dyed through and some are dyed on the tops. Depending on the kind of leather they patina and scuff in really cool ways.

The leather on these boots is oil tanned and thick as fuck. You don't realy need to polish them. Some boot oil will do fine. It will darken them slightly but should return to a lighter shade after it fully absorbs.

You don't polish oil tanned leather. You're thinking of conditioner it but it doesn't need to be conditioned very often, every 6 months if needed or longer. And it depends what the conditioner is based on too to determine if it will darken. You can get one that won't darken it at all.

Thursday was opposite. A bunch of very nice and helpful people who didn't care about the product, only the profit and had no business making boots.

I do not understand the purpose of zippers on lace-up boots if they barely work as intended. I have a lace-up 9-inch boot that has a side-zip but undoing the zipper before you put them on doesn't make putting them on any easier. You still have to loosen as many laces as if you didn't have the zipper. The only advantage a side-zip has is that it makes taking off the boots quickly, but the time difference between loosening a couple of laces is negligible.

Anyone and their mother could buy some shitty jeans from Forever 21 and "pull off" the God-forsaken exposed ankle thing. It's as simple as wearing low-top shoes and either wearing trousers with an inseam a few inches short or cuffing them. Wear some shit you see at the mall such as H&M, Zara, Forever 21, and Express and get inspo from searching "mens fashion" on Google images.

That boot is their Bounty Hunter boot. With the launch of their new website White's changed a lot of stuff like the names of some of their boots.
It's their Smokejumper boot but made on the 55 last which is their semi dress last so it's sleeker. It's one of their flagship boots and one of their most popular. I think it's going to be my next boot since I already own the MPs.

Bounty Hunter is just Baker's name for it. If you go to their site look at all their Bounty Hunter options.
Those in the pic are almost certainly burgundy Chromexcel leather, lace to toe meaning that eyelet style that goes down like that, standard trim meaning two rows of stitching, standard heel meaning the Cuban heel in the pic as opposed to lowered block heel. All that stuff comes standard so all you'd pic would be burgundy CXL.

So also, I just checked Baker's and it appears that they're not making the Bounty Hunter anymore and most of their custom options have been done away with. This must be a business decision on White's part as Baker was selling custom boots through White's for cheaper than what White's was charging. So I guess you'll have to go through White's. They still do custom orders, you just have to go through them.
