Does anyone have any experience in decorating small rooms? I'm going to have a 8m2 room with single window (I think it's on east side), white walls and wooden parquet like in OP's photo. It's not high either, something around 260-270cm. I need bed, desk and place to store clothes/books. Any tips or ideas?

Oh, I'm not saying IKEA is bad, quite the opposite (though they also have a lot of crap, but if you have a slight clue about woodworking, you can normally easily judge what's good and what's crap) and they have loads of things that are well designed, both from a looks and a practicality perspective, but everyone and their mother has IKEA furniture. It's a bit overplayed.
But getting stuff like pic related is prohibitively expensive, and when you move places in a few years, you have to sell it at a huge loss.

Currently on the look out for a big wide mirror with a nice Victorian/vintage feel and a nice way to hang my clothes along with any other ideas you guys had, got some good ones last thread

the problem with my current clothes rack is that the inorganic material clashes with the rest of my room but I don't want to replace it with a chest of drawers and have all my clothes hidden

I personally can draw inspiration from bits and pieces as well as the whole. Maybe your space isn't gonna be as cool as some of these photos but you can pick and choose elements that you like and incorporate them into the space you do have to work with.

As you yourself said, you can do a whole lot with interior design. Everything is workable to an extent. Maybe that just means making a space the least oppressive it can be rather than striving for a paragon of design or function.

I'm really torn, because apartments like that undoubtedly look amazing and are inspiring to me. I'd probably paint far more often if I lived in such a place.

But on the other hand, most people who are actually into the things these apartments desperately try to portray interest in are too broke to actually live like that, and if they weren't, they still wouldn't, because their apartment would actually be lived in, as in somewhat messy, cluttered, not artfully and perfectly arranged.

What i'm saying is the only people who have apartments like that are rich yuppies (either mommy and daddy front the bill, or they have some stuffed shirt white collar job). Basically they're faking a lifestyle, and a home related to that lifestyle, because they have the money to and it makes them seem interesting to the gold diggers they smash.

It's all so false. The only people i've met who live like that are either elderly & wealthy (in which case it's usually legitimate) or in their 20's and desperately trying to impress artsy girls by being pretentious and hardly appreciate the home they've set up for themselves.

>Non artists having hand drawn sketches they pick up at art galleries on their walls, tacked on and crooked on purpose to make it look 'legitimate'.

This makes me sad.

bang on the money I’m British

problem is that the entirety of the ground floor is tiles (like Mediterranean style red tiles) with the stairs and the upstairs landing a navy carpet, and the upstairs bathroom and toilet being the same tiles as downstairs. there’s 3 bedrooms upstairs; 2 have grey carpets but they’re of different pattern and pile height, and my one is this weird crimson carpet which I really hate. so I feel like having a different colour carpet wouldn’t be too bad but putting in hardwood flooring would possibly make it too odd, since the house would have 3 different types of flooring in it then?
