When Hedi went to ysl, he changed the name to slp. I think the reason that he have back then was the originally, the ysl clothes used to have saint laurent written on the tags. But while he was there, he used the ysl logo in bags and at women shoes heels. Now I think that they are going back to ysl.
Honestly is a mess and both are correct.

When Hedi Slimane went to ysl, the brand needed a full rebranding, so he replaced the name to slp. He gave some bullshit excuse that og ysl pieces had saint laurent written on the tags, but of course the main reason was a full rebrand.
Although during Hedi at slp, they kept using the ysl logo on perfumes, bags and women shoes heels.
Now they are kinda going back to the ysl thing.
What the other anon said is true, basically if you're talking about modern ysl people call it slp, if you're talking about pre Hedi era -> ysl.
