Thinking of doing a DIY with the second one any ideas before I just cut it up for patches?

Omg its been AGES since ive seen a DiY thread thanx OP!!

Im about to start turning some cheap dollarstore black Tshirts into some techy/streetwear shirts with paracord and holes and velcro, and, rings and weird shit

And id like to start making some ninja pants out of old baggy jeans and black pants

Ive been super into MK11 lately and have been seeing some neat little pieces of inspo like ninja pants and layering skirts etc

Agreed with other anon ty for the DIY thread.

I've been thinking of patch-working some pants with various materials and patterns. I have a couple of questions:
1. Should I distress the jeans as well?
2. Can I just sew over top of existing fabric?
3. Best size needle and thread?

Any inspo would be great.

When i have my seeing machine back and some time id like to eventually be able to make stuff like that

For now ite simple techwear/lunarcore t shirts and techy cargo ninja pants

And the shitty thing is i only have fabric glue since my sewing machine is at my moms house :(

But the glue should work for tshirts and simple ninja pants right??

Was also thinking about making noragi out of super baggy shirts whatya think??

Yes id distress them and pop them in the dryer so the fabric will puff up and fray out more

Technically ya you probably could just sew over the existing denim at least as a beginner
Will probably make your life 10x easier

Go to Walmart and go to ghe sewing isle and look for "denim needles" which are meant for sewing pants snd jeans and the like

Hey /diy/ I could really use some help.
Does anyone know of a simple method to cut 8-10mm circles out of fabric? Currently, I've been using standard scissors and have just been doing it by hand, but it gets tedious and painful rather fast. I haven't been able to find a large enough hold punch, so I was thinking of investing in some leather punches, but am unsure if these would work on both sheer and heavier fabrics.
If anyone has a suggestion, or could point me in a possible direction, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Been looking for a DIY thread, was actually going to make one since I wanted discussion.

I have a couple questions, anyone recommend any ways to practice drawing clothing/pieces/fits? I'd like to be better at drawing my designs instead of just having them all in my head, but not sure what's a good way.

Secondly, pursuing studies in fashion but currently want to try making one off pieces, trying deconstruction and reconstruction on clothes, has anyone had experience with this and could offer some advice. e.g. combing two different clothing types or an accessory with clothing into one piece.

Questions for these anons, how did you go about making your pieces? How did you learn to sew/do the required steps to make it work?

Is there any way you could recommend/offer advice or assistance?
Off topic slightly: Do you guys think a DIY discord would be good for /fa/ or do you think it would detract from making the board more fashion related as it would draw others off site?

I mostly watched/read content on how to sew for beginners, my project wasn't overly complicated. To make the pattern for my piece i traced the missing shape of the jacket and adjusted it with measurements to make sure the pattern was symmetrical. It's not too hard to do simple stuff as a complete beginner, it just takes more time than it would for an expert. You can also kinda figure out how to do it as you go, ie as long as you take the time to survey a problem you'll probably find the next step/solution within your means.

I'd like a place specifically for DIY fashion stuff, right now I depend on these occassional DIY threads to crop up.

So basically. Take a bucket.
2 part of cold water
1 part of bleach.
(Let's say you got 1 lt, 666 of water 333 of bleach ok?)
Take another bucket with hot water (not boiling just hot) and sodium bicarbonate. 1/2 water 1/2 sodium bicarbonate.
So now you got 2 buckets. The bleach bucket and the sodium bucket.
Drop you pants in the bleach bucket for 45 minutes to 3 hours it really depends for what you going for I was going for the complete bleached look so I left it for 3 hours (if you can't notice big changes during the process it's actually normal bleaching it's better seen after the garment have dried). After the bleaching immediately immerge it in the sodium bucket. By doing so you stop the bleaching of the pants and you already start the process of distressing a lil the denim. Let it hang (HANG can't stress this enough) dry and then wash it with a lil bit of fabric softener (this will give your denim a yellowish/off white (not the brand lmao) look). Hang them to dry again and you got it.
By hang dry I mean dry by air mot with a dryer.

>>14454736
Yeah I know it sounds pretentious lmao didn't sound too pretentious in my head.
Here's another pair I made. I used the same bleaching method, a stancil in this one and garment dye for the orange.

Basically yes. The color will only wear off when you wash them the first time. After that wash it's set forever. I laid the shirt out flat and used a washable marker to draw a straight line up the length of the shirt. I then folded the shirt using that line as a guide and bound it at that spot. Then it's all about carefully dying just that part and not letting it bleed to the rest of shirt. There's a lot of nuance that goes into it too, but that's the basic process. Any ideas for a light blue pair of levis?

I know I should be creative but would love some inputs from you guys.

I've got Levi's similar to pic rel and have been wondering for ages how to alter them.

I'm black and I feel the color is so mismatched with my skin, I was thinking to bleach it using anons guide or dye it then bleach it (though I fear this would weaken the denim).

Was also thinking to distress the bottoms ( loose threads or so or add art or random shit to it (see reply)

Just to fuck around and make it different and more appealing so I can experiment, any ideas?

I've also been considering patching, though I need some buy some denim for that.

1. buy a pattern. simplicity or mccalls are the big companies

2. go to the thrift store and get a button down that fits you in the shoulders, take it apart, and make your own pattern on paper from it, adjusting whatever didn't fit you quite right. transfer that pattern onto bedsheets that you also got at the thrift store to make a toile. once that fits, buy nicer fabric and make your shirt.

3. look up how to make a sloper/muslin

sorry if this has been asked a million times, but is there any way to quickly make a shirt seem "worn" or vintage? I bought a reprint of an old shirt i wanted because i couldnt find an authentic one anywhere, and i was willing to drop $100+ because i saw some other ones that had sold for a similar price.

i was thinking about maybe throwing it in with every laundry load i do, as well as putting it in the dryer on high heat often, but even that sounds like it could take a lot of time / energy to get the desired effect. maybe stretching it out to help crack the print? i don't want it to look like i purposely DIY'd it, just like a shirt thats been tossed around thrift stores for years.

Brine that shit. Literally fill a bucket with warm water - fill with salt - then soak the shirt. Usually 2-3 days for a new pair of dickies. Check the shirt daily for texture and what not. Then wash it. I prefer to wash all of my shirts in cold water and hang dry.

I got this jacket on sale from HT and I want to cover up the cringe moonchild designs. The front symbol is printed on so I was thinking of sewing a patch over it. For the back, I would like to get a custom print (I have a coworker that can do this) of something then just glue or sew it on over the original. I just have no clue what designs to use or look for. Looking for ideas and suggestions, can be from anime/video games/music, etc.

I experiment with old clothes sewing buttons, fixing them, and waterproofing everything.
Painting wool and crochet has become my trademark, i like the abrasive leathery look it makes while keeping the material from fraying

I took the idea from Virginblak and made it my own by adding tons of layers of fabric paint to make it contain heat better and more water resistant.
