Thoughts on Maurice LaCroix Aikon?

Very very well finished Royal Oak inspired (not direct homage). £1000 on chrono24 . ETA movement.

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm4Z55lhaFc

I love the way it looks. I wonder what people would think if I wore it though. Will they think I was trying to pass it off as an AP? If they do I would argue it has tonnes of differences, I dont want to spend all that money on an AP, and I loved the look of this watch.

I am going to Oxford street in London to try on the new 39mm version later in the week.

Why Longines is the best watch brand on the market?

- Gorgeous, memorable logo and name
- The winged hourglass logo, which was registered in 1889, is the oldest unchanged yet still active registeredtrademark
- ETA began making custom movements reserved for Longines - technically in-house movements, since they’re part of the same manufacture
- The CEO of Longines, Walter von Känel, isn’t some hired manager, but worked 50 (!) years for the brand
- Annual calendar watch for only $2000
- Honest watchmaking: you’re paying for functionality, design and quality
- The Heritage chronograph might as well be the most beautiful watch in the world
- Rich history and heritage: founded 75 years before Rolex and 15 years before Omega
- Perfect price point, between posh luxury and cheapish brands
- Audrey Hepburn adored the brand. Buy it for her
- Albert Einstein adored the brand. So it’s stupid to hate it
- Introduced the very first watch with an LCD screen to the market
- Brought its first Quartz to the market in the same year as Seiko
- Brought United States watchmaking know-how to Switzerland
- „Elegance is an attitude“

There’s two options when a normie sees a Tudor.

1. He’s never heard of Tudor and thinks it cost 250$ max
2. He knows that Tudor is a cheaper version of Rolex, and you’ve outed yourself as someone who wanted a Rolex but couldn’t afford it

Tudor is a lesser brand, with defects made on purpose for market segmentation to justify Rolex pricing. Very nice watches... until you see the thicc, dull, ugly case sides done on purpouse for said reasons.

Is like buying anything Swatch that isnt Omega... or Longines stretching the thing. If you want a ETA movement you should buy a Longines (used to be Omega before it went upscale full in house co-axial).

So, Omega is better than Tudor because Swatch dont fuck them for said reasons since is the flagship brand of the group.

Just as the Rolex group nerfs Tudor on purpose to position its main brand higher, the Swatch Group nerfed Longines to position it below Omega. Before that, Longines was a competitor to even Rolex. Today, they’re not allowed to make watches cooler than the entry-level Omegas

The whole market is just for good goys. They get harassed by marketing until they think that it is okay to pay absurd amounts of money for that shit.
Just ask some normie about rolex, most will say that it's a good investment because the (((press))) told them so.
Also, keep in mind that the swiss industry is a oligopoly and they mostly agree on prices so that the whole industry won't kill itself with competition.
Also
>muh swiss made
Swiss law demands that a watch is only made up of 60% swiss parts in order to be allowed to have that label. So 40% is from some shithole.

But that's just the result of lurking, after some time you will get some info about the industry and then you start asking questions.
The first time i had this was when i saw some pic about the swiss watch groups.
Of course almost every other industry has this kind of thing and big groups buy the smaller ones up. But other products are not that expensive so there must be fuckery on a big scale.

Wondering about the same thing. But i guess too many npc's are on this board, they define themselves by luxury watches that they don't even own. But it's this retarded "maybe someday i will" mentality.
They think that people will give a single fuck about them and are scared to wear a rep so they don't have to explain themselves.

Some are concerned about not being able to service the movement.
But i think that there always will be a service center that will do a simple revision and relube.
And if the whole thing breaks, big deal, just ask the watch shop to replace the movement with some fitting miyota movement. Or buy the whole thing again.
But the movement replacing thing is of course a bit problematic, depending on the complications of the rep. Some reps come with a miyota or miyota copy. People just don't want to go thru the trouble, i guess.

I'm still not going to pay thousands just for a brand. The manufacturing cost are not that high, especially when the movement is not in-house.
The real crime is manipulating the average consumer with decades of marketing and lies.

If i could, i would get a 1:1 replica without an brandname, i just want to own the design, i don't care about the brand, their history, how people react to that watch, etc, i just want a watch for myself.
