Noticed that there's a lack of a skincare/haircare general here, so might as well start one and collaborate information for a pastebin for future threads as this is a frequent topic discussed.

>skincare
boils down to: double cleanse, sunscreen, moisturize, chemical exfoliant (not that order)
https://www.beautypedia.com/skin-care/ has pretty good reviews on items and basically screens out a lot of the garbage ingredients. your own skin's preferences come into play too but they filter out harmful or generally clogging / irritating chemicals.
hot towels and ice packs i also find nice, hot towels after i cleanse and before i serum / moisturize.
>haircare
just shampoo less, curl shampoos in combo with a deeper-cleaning shampoo i find works for me. oils can be nice to add shine and smell.

Here's an image compilation of skin issues and facial aesthetics that I'm currently combating. Deciding to update monthly with results.

Background info: 21 yr old male with all round diet. Increased sebaceous production around nose, forehead and chin pivot. (general t-zone problems) Large pores and thin hair from mums side. Large amounts of vellus hairs on cheeks and jaw line but not a lot of terminal hairs above jaw. (literal neckbeard)

Also currently treating hair with a diluted apple cider vinegar rinse in the shower and following with this oil as conditioner does not maintain its buoyancy with my hair, and leaves it looking brittle/dry very quickly. Also have no idea how to style or any products with regards to it so if anyone is willing to contribute some advice that would be greatly appreciated.

hair: grow it out or cut it. long top short sides is classic and nice. why not just shave?
skin: i hope you're moisturizing enough and using sunscreen. oil cleanser might increase hair thickness on face, but it'll help even out skin texture.

I'm using the night moisturiser during the mornings as well and currently do not go outside unless it's to go to the shops for groceries. Haven't gotten around to looking up SPF moisturisers so would you have a recommendation? I'll probably go for the short sides long top as my hair can get dense and tedious at times when trying to grow it out.

I'm not a daily browser of this board but frequently when I come here there's either no active skincare general, or a horde of individual threads begging for advice on solving acne issues. Better to compile them into a single thread.

Apologies for missing that section in the sticky, I'll keep it on hand for future threads.

>hello namefag

Look up the dermatologist @shereeneidriss (ig). She is a wealth of knowledge and says that dermarollers don't work because they need to go at least 1mm deep to stimulate collagen production. Furthermore if they aren't cleansed well or they roll over acne they can create/spread infections.

For the skin, you need to find a cleanser that works with your skin. Are you oily, dry, mixed? I have mixed and I like the LA Roche Posay foaming cleanser. The creamy ones weren't powerful enough for my t-zone. Once you have that down 2x a day, that alone will make an impact for everything. Then you can add a moisturizer where you need it. Not necessarily everywhere. You have to test products to see what works so buy them in small travel sizes before dropping money on a full size. You should just shave to get rid of the patchy beard.

For the hair, minoxidil works. I have seen results myself after 2 months of usage. Overall I have more hair.

1 tbsp acv per 8oz of water (and a few drops of tea tree oil) is what I use every third day or so. It works well. You probably don't need to use it that often, just cleanse with water. Maybe that alone will help with the dryness. If you want to be able to style your hair bigger you absolutely need a good hair dryer ideally with ionizing. Walmart sells them for about $25. This will be more helpful than the products you use because it locks the hair in place. This is especially important for thin hair that can be flat. I like oribe molding clay to shape certain parts and just a light spray of normal tresemme hair spray to hold everything in place.

>5% Salicylic acid.
>10-15% Lactic acid.
>97% Hyaluronic acid.
>Light lotion with niacin, allantoin, and/or hyaluronic acid as ingredients.
>50SPF broad spectrum sunscreen every morning.

Don't waste your money on gimmicky products which 'include' active ingredients. Buy your exfoliants and acids at the highest concentration you can and dilute yourself. 50ml of 90% lactic acid diluted to 15% lasts a year.

Also if you're a smoker, or regularly around smoke, try to wear a thick occlusive lotion to protect against the physical damage.

is it ok to cleanse your face with a bar of soap if you then tone and moisturise?

>> No.14387570

>>14387550

No because the acid mantle on your skin is around 5 pH and bar soaps can be as high as 9 pH. When you strip that off, all kinds of bad things happen like acne. Cleansers are specifically designed to be at a similar pH to your skin. Just get a cleanser. They are typically $8 to $15.

Is there any evidence that minoxidil or finasteride can restore a hairline? I keep seeing mixed answers, mostly about how they are only tested for crown regrowth.
I've been using Amazon's brand of minoxidil and see little to no improvement after half a year. I'm thinning all over but have only been trying it on my hairline since I'll have to take the buzzpill if I can't restore that anyway. I plan on starting finasteride in autumn. Also, is biosil a meme or can that help hair regrowth?

How do I get rid of large pores? Also, sweat a lot and am quite oily(at least, when I'm at work, as the moisturizer tends to get removed when I wipe my sweat off, as I move a lot.) What do?

>> No.14388692

>>14387729
Finasteride should stop further hair fall off. In some cases it could stregthen your hairline and on very rare ocassions regrowth is possible. Minoxidil is different to finasteride and can spur hair growth even on hairless skin. However you should start with finasteride because minoxidil doesn't stop follicle miniaturization and the consecutive fall off, it only really takes care of the hair grown by itself.

What should I do to get rid of acne as in pic related
I used to have no skin routine and no acne but I started wearing by hair on my forehead. Over time I started to get acne (probably cuased by the contact between skin and hair) and now I have changed up my hairstyle. I still have acne so what should I do? Foreheads are naturally more oily so hair may not even be the issue. You can try either applying low strength benzoyl peroxide or a BHA/salicylic acid. Make sure to moisturize afterwards as well, because both of them will dry out the skin. Don't forget to cleanse right before any of this.

Do you touch your forehead more now with the new style? How do you cleanse your hair? You may consider an apple cider vinegar solution.

Like this guy said use benzoyl peroxide and or salicylic acid to contain your current acne. Benzoyl peroxide comes in different forms but I like the high strength creams that you can apply before bed. For me it gets rid of zits in two to three days. Once it is gone/contained you will want to stop using benzoyl peroxide until another flare up occurs. It's quite rough on the skin. If you were using salicylic acid you could continue to use it since it's also used as a toner and it's also called Beta Hydroxy Acid BHA. Meanwhile you should use an actual facial cleanser (has the correct pH for the acid mantle on your skin) and a moisturizer. Do not use bar soap. Once the acne is stopped/contained, the cleanser and moisturizer alone should keep you clear.

You need a sunscreen that contains physical blockers, namely Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide. Compared to chemical blockers, they instantly offer UV protection upon application, there is no waiting time involved. They also don't degrade as fast. The downside is a whitish cast that both leave so unless you're pale you should look for a tinted physical sunscreen that matches the colour of your skin. Additionally, it has to be mentioned that while Zinc Oxide alone offers full spectrum protection, Titanium Dioxide leaves out a portion of UV-A rays, so often it is combined with chemical blockers to account for the lack of full coverage requiring the sunscreen to soak in for 20 minutes to receive absolutely maximum protection.

Body skin is thicker so it shouldn't matter unless you have a specific issue you want to tackle, like keratosis pilaris or body acne (something which can be diet related). In my experience products that would break me out hideously all over the face made not a dent when applied on hands, one of them had myristyl myristate which is rated 5/5 in terms of pore clogging.
