Likewise artificially curly hair was fashionable during the 1980s and it's probably associated with the excesses of that time.

Can’t really help you much with the details since I’m a guy and my hair routine consist of washing and not much else, but at least I can tell you that I haven’t heard other guys mention finding curly hair unattractive very much. I hope I can fix my dryness/frizzyness as I get a lot of compliments on my hairstyle, with the only negative being the hydration (although again these are mostly women talking so you're probably right that it's them not liking it)

Though honestly my hair has always been quite dry so maybe it's not that easy to solve. Still really appreciate your post though, you've helped me feel better about it!

You do have nice hair, the frizziness is there but its really nothing that noticeable, I think women will notice it a lot more since they spend more time worrying about their hair than men do. I think you could definitely pull off growing it out a bit longer past your shoulder and not straightening it, though that is just my personal opinion.
My sister has similar hair, and she also always has to put in a fair bit of effort into brushing it, but in return for the extra effort curly hair does look nicer than straight hair.
As for the aspect of it being a bit more attention grabbing and not suiting your personality, you can definitely compensate for that with your style a fair bit. With a cropped top in the OP it may be a bit much, but if you combine it with a summer dress or a nice blouse and skirt and just wear your hair open it will look great, guys will like it too, just try it out

You need to just be you. If that means that it makes you happy to straighten your hair forever, then do that. (Although, you'll eventually end up with fucking trashed hair that's brittle and will get thin the older you get if you constantly heat treat it). BUT, you do you.

That said, I'm all about everyone having natural hair, no matter what the type. Natural hair is beautiful. Natural hair is healthier, there's no doubt, and it will stay healthy your whole life if you don't abuse it. I have had long wavy hair my whole life, and back when it was popular to have stick straight hair, I spend untold hours straightening it. Finally, I just said fuck it, and went natural, and I haven't regretted it once. My hair is healthy, shiny, thick, and wavy, and I love it.
