Similar price range\market share that the Seikomatic\Weekdater models took, meant for the middle range salary man. Like the contemporary 62XX cal Seiko's, but with the different 83XX cal movements (8305/8306/8325/8345/8346) which were more Swiss like in design in comparison to the Seiko standard didn't use a magic lever system.

Not uncommon but still rather old even in comparison to Seiko's since they were made from the mid 60's up to 1970~, and mine is from June 1967. I'd get the date only versions, since the day isn't quicksettable but the date quicksets to both sides.

The numbers and indices together is a nice solution. Otherwise we would have subdials cutting off the numerals.
You are fully right about everything else, this whole thing just looks uninspired and badly proportioned, oversized dial, shitty case without character.
My guess is that this is the result of being owned by a watch group. These shitty watches are not created because they need to be but rather because some business plan tells the company to do so.
>rich says: we need a chrono for about x amount of $, don't get out of the price bracket or else you will do harm to the sales of the other companies we own

>There is absolutely nothing wrong with a Speedy
That's highly debatable. It's not crazy expensive but it's far more expensive than it should be. They've been churning out basically the same product for 50 years and making cost-cutting changes to the movement along the way. When are the economies of scale going to kick in?

>> No.14366348

>why does EVERYONE want this meme watch?
Marketing. The speedy wasn't the first watch in space. It wasn't the first watch worn on a spacewalk. It's one of dozens and dozens of watches that have been to space but omega have done a very, VERY good job of monopolizing the space watch meme.

It's a 50 year old design and they haven't managed to add water resistance in that time. They've changed the movement several times, but didn't fix the wr. Even though nasas requirements stated that it should be water proof. That means they give it shitty WR on purpose.
I don't consider something with big design flaws built into it on purpose a tool watch.

I always liked it even before I knew it was the moonwatch. For me that kind of dial design on a chronograph is perfect. It was common way back then but despite being so simple it's impossible to find nowadays for cheap. 3 sub perfectly visually balanced subdials. Black and white. Sinn is pretty cool I just prefer the subdial arrangement on the Speedmaster.

Ballfag here, probably the only one on this site. I'm really happy with my Engineer II Arabic COSC after a couple of years of ownership. For what it cost it's a staggeringly nicely finished watch. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the bracelet, it's a very nicely made thing but I'm not in love with the design, especially the hidden clasp and its lack of micro adjustments, so I keep the watch on leather or a NATO most of the time.

If you dont want a chunky diver, you may well go for something military style or a quartz chronograph like the Orient Neo 70s panda.

Try to get something 100wr at least so you can wear it all year long and for everything and on leather, NATOs or bracelet.
