Really looking into getting myself a nice gift, can I get some help.

Up to $6000 I'd say, not a hard limit or anything. That includes pre-owned ones that might normally retail for more if there's a chance they could be found around this price.

It would be a daily wearer, so nothing too formal or too specialized. I like chronos, pilots, whatever. Anything that feels like the price I'm paying (whatever that is) is justified. I'm already aware of speedies and am considering one but something is holding me back, maybe thinking like it's not unique or something.

A good size would be anywhere from 36mm to 42, as my wrists are kind of small. No strap preference.

If this isn't enough info I can try to help more, but I'm honestly just trying to get a good feel.

Any opinions on Junkers watches? My finance bought me one (pic related) as a wedding gift but I just don’t hear much about them. arent these 41mm though? regardless, their thickness definitely makes them feel much smaller than lower-end seiko divers that are both thicker and larger. picrel is an old lume shot of mine. by far the best visibility out of any watch I own.

>>14319988
then sounds like you should stop buying watches and start enjoying the ones you own. as you said, any hobby can end up dissolving into "buying shit for the sake of buying shit" (look at sneakers right now, people literally buy up all new releases like a bunch of sheep and stockpile them).

>>14319997
>buying watches
you say that as if all there is to watches as a hobby is buying them. I'm not arguing that the hobby isnt sometimes pointless and superficial, im more saying that its the fault of the person partaking in the hobby if all they get out is the superficial side.

I pretty much have stopped buying watches. In sure I'll buy more in the future I'm definately good for now. Checking out these threads scratches the itch to look at/learn about watches for now. To be clear I wasn't trying to slag off anybody. It's nice to have multiple hobbies, especially if ones autistic and detail oriented (eg watches) and ones more skill or activity focused (eg sports or art shit). Obviously some combine the 2 like mountain biking - many people turn that into a huge buypig hobby and forget to ride lol

GENTLEMEN. Wristwatches are, in my OPINION, one of the few pieces of jewelry a man can wear. They add some extra "oomph" to an outfit and send a subtle signal that you're punctual and responsible.
HOWEVER, there are TONS of overpriced watches out there, especially if you start looking at more high-end brands. But as you know, Alpha's here to find YOU the best deals on SLEEK SEXY STYLISH products... So feast your eyes on this little number from today's video sponsor: MVMT. Look at this - a HIGH-GRADE Japanese quartz chronograph with THIRTY METERS of water resistance and interchangeable straps. And here's the kicker: it only costs 150 bucks, so you're getting a premium timepiece without breaking the bank.
WHOOOAAAATT? That's right guys, LESS THAN 200 dollars for a luxury watch that would typically run you 600 or more. This is thanks to MVMT's revolutionary distribution system which CUTS OUT THE MIDDLE MAN, allowing them to sell high-quality products without the markup. BOOM, now you've got a great watch AND can still afford a dinner date with that spicy senorita... or senor, I'm not judging... you've been eyeing for a while.
Guys, there's a link down in the description; it will take you to the OFFICIAL AlphaM collection curated by yours truly. And make sure you use the promo code "Alpha20" to get TWENTY PERCENT off your first purchase.

The Speedmaster wears small to begin with, unless you have small wrists i'd recommend the 42mm original, i tried the 38 recently and it didn't look right. If you've already tried it and like it, it's a nice alternative, the automatic movement and date are a bonus. Depends what you like, to me it doesn't have the charm of the original hesalite model with manual wind.

Grand Seiko spring drive.
Many styles, mostly dressy, kinda sporty. The spring drive movement is beyond anything the Swiss ever had. Most cases are titanium alloy that is harder to scratch than stainless and also have better thermal property. Lighter as well.
Prices of swiss watches have been rapidly climbing in the past decade and the value have not increased the least. Brands like Rolex cultivate prestige through obscurity and it limit development because it would cuck people who payed insane money for past products plastered with gold.

Nomos can also be a good choice if you like Bauhaus.

The next seaforth is bronze and they have 48mm under specs for lug to lug, I thought they did 46.6, I hope if they bring back the steel pastel blue version they dont Jack up the size. So annoying when a diver or dress watch is like "hey we are going conservative sizes for everyone! 39-40mm" And then the lug to lug is fucking horrible (at least if it is going to be on an 2 piece strap and not a bracelet/nato)

Avoid the "prestiege" Swiss brands as other posters have mentioned. Their prices are super-inflated right now. Steve McQueen spent about the equivalent of $2000 USD in today's money on his no-date Submariner. They're now $7,500.
Aside from the already mentioned Oris, Sinn, and Nomos, I would also recommend you take a look at Fortis. Their Cosmonauts chronograph is a good alternative to the Speedy.
I like some of Junghans chronos as well.
Bell & Ross isn't everyone's cup of tea, but they're certainly distinctive.
There are some interesting options by Muhle Glashutte as well, and their prices tend to be very fair.
I remember thinking Vertex's new monopusher chrono looked pretty interesting as well.
For $6k you could also get yourself a Monaco.

A 100usd Casio Edifice something
A 100usd citizen
2 30something usd Casios one which I swapped the strap for one more casual(black) and have to swap the other for a leather one because it sucks(gold).
A Fitbit with around 12 chinese straps of multiple colors, which I change according to the color of my shirt when I go to the gym.
It is evident that I am not only a poorfag, but I am also a 3rd world nigger that got 4 out of 5 watches from Amazon and got them sent to me here, being the other a gift from my father ,that sadly paid like 300usd in a store here, without knowing that due to taxes and greedy jews, the same Edifice is 1/3 of the price he paid in amazon.

So guys, what should I get considering my options?

old ebay listing I saved it off of, but almost all of the old bulova and hamilton squares from the 30s-50s (I think, maybe just 30-40s is when they did this specific type of art deco) are really good looking. They aren't rare or that expensive but they are obviously tiny, they could look at any of these old ones, raise the size up, keep it faithful, no changing the blocky numerals, or hands, or putting retarded looking lugs on it, and they would be golden. Bulova is out of their fucking minds for not reissuing gotti's bulova, putting whatever inside of it and charging a grand.

Hamilton has a shot at bringing back these types of designs, they honor they history pretty faithfully it's just that they haven't gone that far back in the timeline yet. They could just have 1 watch to represent those years and they would have a stranglehold on the "yeah I want an old new york grand central looking watch, but it works and isn't 28mm" market.

Well let's compare:

>Sinn pros:
- dial print is actually print, meaning it's all ink applied by rubber pad so it stands out from the dial, which is cooler to look at.
On the Navitimer most print on the dial is actualy inlaid, and at the same level of the actual dial surface. (Though it's possible the Breitling 1959 reedition also has applied paint.)
- better water resistance

>Navitimer pros:
- the rotating bezel is an external one, which is MUCH faster and handier than Sinn's inner rotating bezel which you have to operate with a little knob.
(This also means the bezel knurling is actually functional on the Navitimer, as opposed to the Sinn's knurling which is purely for aesthetics)
- better movement with vertical clutch and column wheel, as opposed to Sinn's ultra-generic 7750.
- Chronometer accuracy, as opposed to Sinn's virtually non-existent accuracy standard.

As for sizing, that 1959 reedition I posted is also 41mm, and it's literally 2mm slimmer than the Sinn (partly because it's manual wind though).
Pricing, well that's another matter.

I'm asking what the famous one is. im aware about the obviously different ones in terms of looks, but I was under the impression that there are many that looked like the famous one but might have shittier internals or something.

If it's not 42mm, hand-wound with a hesalite crystal it's not the real Speedy.

Feels bad when you have a sub and you think about staying safe, keep it well under the cuff in some areas.

Thanks for the advice. I do try to be very careful where I decide to wear it. I eventually want to travel overseas with it but I'm very wary of the possibilities. Perhaps a swap to a NATO band would make it a little more low key.

Enjoy it, your kids will only sell it! I never hand any problems in Japan wearing a bluesy, I'd start there, great watch shopping to be had, they have 10x of everything! No London, NY, HK, Paris. Just go to Tokyo
