Yes, but I mean if you want to wear a watch all the time and be the watch guy in your microcosm, obviously the general idea is to do it with something commonly accepted such as the Speedy or the Sub, and if you're really young it can be one of the Seikos or something, so what's actually the point of quartz watches, let's say from $500 to $2500, so from the better Seiko chronographs to Astron, or any other brand's equivalents, who actually wears those and why?

I'm absolutely in love with this 18 carat, rose gold TAG Heuer Carrera watch purchased from the beautiful city of Perth. Made with sapphire infused glass that only diamond can scratch, I've spoiled myself with this gorgeous timepiece. The calibre 16 movement has been crowned as the most successful automatic chronograph movement ever produced, completely handmade by man. It is also my very first day date watch and it will be interesting to see if it becomes an important feature that Will depend on over time. I hope you all enjoy this watch as much as I do.

>Yes, but I mean if you want to wear a watch all the time and be the watch guy in your microcosm, obviously the general idea is to do it with something commonly accepted such as the Speedy or the Sub,
These two ideas dont necessarily go hand in hand. There's plenty of people that own either of those for no reason other than because of the brand or some such reason, which of course doesnt make them "watch guys", just brand whores. Your knowledge of watches makes you a watch guy, not whatever generic, "acceptable" luxury watch you think will make you look like you know what youre talking about.

>so what's actually the point of quartz watches, let's say from $500 to $2500, so from the better Seiko chronographs to Astron, or any other brand's equivalents, who actually wears those and why?
Dudes who like what they like. It could be the design of a certain piece, or maybe one of them has an interesting history or usage, or one just works better in certain circumstances than other watches for their every day activities.

Being into something that's for rich people whilst not being rich is kind of pathetic in and of itself though, don't you think? When entry level costs 7k or so, it's hard to justify interest in the hobby if you don't even have that.

>Dudes who like what they like. It could be the design of a certain piece, or maybe one of them has an interesting history or usage, or one just works better in certain circumstances than other watches for their every day activities.

Absolutely not. Just because someone cant participate, doesnt mean their interest and appreciation is worthless, any more so than believing that someone is a true hobbyist just because he has the money to buy whatever he wants; That's just brainless consumerism, which is far more pathetic. Ideally a mix of all three (interest, participation, and appreciation) is best, but the latter two are preferable to just the former when it comes to being any sort of hobbyist. That being said, the ability to throw money around on expensive watches doesnt legitimize such a practice. A millionaire can go around and buy all the Subs, APs, and ALSs he wants, that doesnt make him a watch guy. that makes him a guy with money and questionable spending habits.

>When entry level costs 7k or so, it's hard to justify interest in the hobby if you don't even have that.
7k is hardly "entry level" in the first place. There's fine pieces from 4-5k.

>Apart from the G Shock can you name some that would be justified like that.
Personally speaking, the casio AE-1200WH. I love the design, and its packed with features i use daily. I've also gotten numerous complements on it as well. It cost me 26 dollars, so its easily replaceable should i need to, looks good, tells time, and helps me with my work.

My original point is that, since the entry level watches are Speedy and Sub, and there is nothing respectable below them, except the literal $10 watches you buy at a news stand similar to $10 sunglasses that you just throw away at the end of the day, that it's completely pointless to bother with the hobby itself and all the knowledge in the world won't save one or make it in any way non-pathetic for one to expend their mental energy on knowing anything about the hobby.

Wearing a replica says to folks, "I hope you arent keen enough to realize this is a fake and call me out on it".

What if someone with a real Speedmaster wants to chat you up about it? Then you have to say, "yeah, just a phony." Embarrassment City.

Good luck.

For me I don't feel like dropping a few grand on a watch, but I like the design. It's as simple as that. If I can have a watch design I like and save a few grand, I don't care if it says Casio on the front of it. Or Invicta for that matter. It's not about wanting to fool people into thinking I have an expensive watch.

>> No.14297508

>>14297503
Its all relative. If you make $50k a year $500 on a watch is 1% of your annual salary. If you make $500k $5k is one percent of your salary and the additional $5k on the watch doesn't cut into your mortgage payment. I like watches so I buy what I like. Some higher end but in the end real watch collectors are really rich and $500k only gets you a handful of what's really considered high end. My feeling is its for u and if $50 I'd the right number for you, you get the best you can get for $50. My most expensive watch is the watch I value the least but at the same time it's my most orized possession in my collection. Why because my working class family has a great tradition. Graduate college, get a Rolex, and get off the payroll.

My my first real watch was more expensive than the car I was driving at the time. My first car was scrapped to parts after both my two bros and myself drove it through two engines. All three of our rolex's are still ticking. Any Quartz is still also ticking too so rock it if you got it. And for the big boys sporting Piaget and Patek - we all hope to get there but till then homage U

Yeah, the Smiths PRS-29a.
36mm, springbar holes for easy change, domed sapphire and eta cal.2801 hand wound.
It's a homage of the original issued smiths military watch of the from the 60's/70's for British troops. Only difference (apart from the swiss vs Smiths english movment) is on the 29a model the springbars are replaceable; the original homage smiths prs-29 had fixed springbars and could only take nato type straps, and of course luminova instead of tritium for the luminescence.

I really like the look of it.
I like that MOD style milwatch type thing, the size is inconspicuous and not obnoxious.

However, they're all made by a company called Timefactors, which is a one man band, who also owns the tz-uk watch forum who bought the Smiths name.

He does all the designs work (or, in the case of a vintage ripoff, translates the designs to a modern format) and sends the data off to have cases and dials and other shit made elsewhere and then the finished parts are assembled in the UK, which allows them to utilize the "made in england" on the dial. Used to be made in germany, cept the movement, but apparently some shit wend down and the guy's moved production to hong kong.
Okay whatever a lot of shit is mad there these days. As long as it's made to spec, right?

Problem lies with the guy that owns the brand. From virtually all accounts he is an insufferable cunt and that you be better off not buying anything from him.

It's like this: if you buy something, and shit goes wrong with it (bad QC) and you approach the guy he will get all bitchy and blame you.
He owns the forum his brand is talked on most so if you try to complain there you get banned.

In one instance I read of he doxxed a disgruntled customer and tried to blackmail them or some shit.

After some quick consideration I figured that it'd be best if I just pick up a real vintage mil watch instead of dealing with the potential bullshit.

Life's too short to deal with cunts.

How cheap is it safe to go to buy a decent Seiko? I'm looking for quite a classic, minimal look, not too bulky on the wrist. Any specific models you guys would recommend?
