I'm friends with a Rolex certified watchmaker of over 30 years and he says there is no reason to service it unless it's not keeping time properly.

I had mine serviced because the self-winding stopped working 100% after 11 years.

Yeah I figured. How long did it take where you live? There’s no Rolex Authorized Center where I live, the only legit watchmaker told me he didn’t want to touch one, and I’m a bit nervous about posting my watch somewhere abroad. My last chance if I ever want to have it serviced would be to stay long enough in a country where I could have it looked after while I’m there.

It took three weeks from when I gave them my watch until I had it back.

Even if there is no authorized service center where you live, if there is an authorized dealer, you can have it serviced through them. You give them the watch, they handle posting etc. If you don't even have a certified retailer in your area, you should move.

I can’t really blame you because most of us started with shitty designers watches.
Try to find a reliable watch enthusiasts forum (not 4chins obviously) and read a lot of the noobs posting and the educated answers they get.
You’ll end up wanting a Sub or a Speedy at some point but that’s just part of the process, you’ll also make your taste up along the way.
Obnoxious tacky shit like your Versace can even be found in the Haute Horlogerie stuff (look up Hublot, Zenith Defy...). But if you start really caring about watches and watches design, you’ll realize mall shitters are really a waste of your money.

I had no clue either and i spent a bit of time on watches. No worries, there are many models and nobody knows them. And those who demand it are just losers, trying to compensate for something.

The image search (click the triangle) said that it's a waltham a11, a WWII watch. Would not buy it if you are on a budget. Prices on vintage watches can be inflated and servicing might be a bitch. Be it just paying for rare parts or waiting for parts to be found by your watchmaker.

Buy a comfy $100 Timex, and save until you can afford a real luxury watch. $1k watches scream compromise, poor taste, and middle management. The people you want to respect you the most will literally make jokes about your shitty watch behind your back. While if you see someone with a $100 watch on, you think "This guy isnt rich yet, but at least he is smart with his money and secure in his image."

Nice meme but the average Panerai is superior in every way to everything else posted in these threads barring Rolex. Their design language is subjective but they do some amazing work and complications with their in-house movements and their finishing is really good. I get that it’s trendy in the watch community to hate on Panerai but the days of them stuffing ETAs into their watches has been over for a decade.

Are you trolling or just uninformed? The 318 was a very limited edition model released in 2011. Panerai has stayed mum on the matter but the community speculated that they accidentally sent out the wrong watches during production because their press pictures of a finished movement didn’t match up with what people received. Panerai offered to replace the movement for free. The kicker, of course, is that now the original models with the unfinished movement is worth more than what people paid for it. Regardless, you’re arguing a production snafu from 8 years ago as a reason to discount a brand. It’s so mind numbing idiotic that I have to assume you not only didn’t know the actual story behind the 318, but are utterly ignorant to the modern brand as a whole. I won’t respond to you again since you’re either a bad troll or just a moron.

I really wish there was just a static sturmanskie/3133 chronograph you could always buy new with sapphire. It's either ducking with vintage which no one wants to do. Or its oversized and overpriced. Or it doesnt have sapphire OR the 3133 (which I know apparently no one can have now since its discontinued)

I know poljot.de has the strela at 40mm but it just looks kind of clunky and not worth it. The buran looks alright but its 500 for mineral crystal.

If they just straight up reissued the sturmanskie I'd get one , which they probably did at one point for way too much at like 600 pieces.

I’m the Sturmanskie guy, glad to see there’s at least someone that likes it too . I honestly prefer acrílico over sapphire when it comes to <1000€ watches since watches that use sapphire in that price range usually don’t have AR coating which ruins the visibility of the dial, which makes the watch completely worthless. And I’d rather have acrylic than mineral cristal, because the former can get easily polished while the other can’t. Also the acrylic is really clear and can be domed for a low price.
The 3133s are still being produced with remaining stock parts by Maktime, the current manufacturer of Poljot watches nowadays, hence why Poljot24.de sells new models like the Strela you mentioned. The Strela also comes in 38 size btw, but I don’t like it because it mixes Russian and English on the dial. Regarding the current Sturmanskie/Okean editions they look bad and are have different proportions (20mm strap instead of 18mm).

Yeah I'm actually fine with acrylic too but none of them ever are, it's always hardened mineral which is baffling. The best looking one was the cirilic (dont know if I spelled that right) writing 40mm, one I mentioned in the last post but even that looked a little bit too big and didnt use a real 3133. Just looked at the 38mm and I get raising the price for a 3133, sapphire, but they are out of their minds. All of these feel like they just hit a randomizer for size/materials/price and are seeing what they can get. Russian chronograph is on my list but they are a pain trying to narrow it down. Even more confusing when you see shit the 1st Moscow watch factory chronos with sapphire, a 3133, normal price but then no one talks about it or has info (moscowtime sells them, kiruva 1MWF or some shit). Pic related is pretty close but it had to be mineral (and 500 for some reason). I know the maktime ones you are talking about, they all look gaudy/cheap as hell, no clue what they are doing.

Where can I find old ass art deco styling that is extremely similar to pic related but on a new watch? If I'm better off buying vintage how should I go about it? I wouldn't know what is acceptable for an old one of these to run at, everyone lists "recently serviced" but I've been burned by that (on extremely cheap shit but still)

I know about the joseph bulova collection shown at baselword but imo it's a missed opportunity, the cases are horrid and I have no clue what the sizes are but probably oversized just looking at them. Hamilton makes some nice shit that is true to their roots but it's all past the era of this and more into the incredibles/mad men looking shit and not tomy gun/overcoat.

It's kind of insane no one is nailing these old aesthetics for new watches, it was a common look and it's distinct. Maybe a microbrand will eventually ape old shit like this, I've seen a few that do it for british shit of the same era.
