It's clearly aimed to be a competitor to the DJII.
On its technical merits, it competes well, and its superior lume and independently-adjustable hour hand might arguably put it over the top. It's pretty reasonably priced. That fluted bezel wasn't invented by Rolex but it's pretty much become a signature of theirs so no matter how much Omega says they'd been using fluted bezels as far back as 1910, it will look like a knockoff of the DJ style.

The problem is it will always be one of those watches where owners have to explain why they didn't get the Rolex.

Looks are subjective so I'm not going to bother. The DJ has been around so long that it's a little boring, but very safe. The Omega is a new watch, so it's more interesting, but we won't know how well the looks age. The pie pan is a nice callback to the Genta-designed Constellations.

I'm not considering resale value since it's "buy one watch for life" but the Rolex will hold its value better. You'd lose less money reselling the Rolex, but you could buy a second-hand Globemaster for cheaper too. So that's a point either way depending on if you're a buyer or a seller.

tldr; the Rolex is slightly better, but maybe not necessarily £1,830 better.

Also, Globemaster is apparently a throwback to when the Constellation first came to the US market and there was a copyright issue, so the watch was called Globemaster for a little bit.

I bet a GMT version is incoming, but short of an actual GMT hand, an hour hand you can switch without changing the time is pretty handy for travelers.
