Here's an interesting question for a change - does a chronograph with 24 divisions per second (for use in animation) exist? That one Bulova high frequency quartz has 5 divisions per second actually marked on the dial. I'm not really expecting an analog watch to have it, but is it possible to set any digital chrono to such a subdivision or will they all just have sport divisions (like 1/10 or 1/100)?

They didn't for a while, then in the 80s and 90s they did, but they're back to being good again. Their latest in-house movements are good.

Vintage Cartier (pre-1980) is a pain in the ass because their record keeping was poor and they, were, effectively three companies.

I'm into super minimalist stuff so I wanted to get a watch that reflects that style.
What do you think of stuff like pic related, not necessarily that brand (suuuper cheap as far as I can tell), but that sort of design.
Would that look a bit pretentious? For the record, I like all my accessoires to be jet black or monochrome at most.

Speaking of Longines, do you know that the company was established in 1832 and since then has produced countless classic timepieces.
Apart from their technologically advanced quartz movement, they also have other models that appeal more to those looking for a more traditional design. Like their flagship heritage model.

It's clearly aimed to be a competitor to the DJII.
On its technical merits, it competes well, and its superior lume and independently-adjustable hour hand might arguably put it over the top. It's pretty reasonably priced. That fluted bezel wasn't invented by Rolex but it's pretty much become a signature of theirs so no matter how much Omega says they'd been using fluted bezels as far back as 1910, it will look like a knockoff of the DJ style.

The problem is it will always be one of those watches where owners have to explain why they didn't get the Rolex.

Globemaster vs DateJust II. Both aim to be the quintessential buy-one-watch-for-life.

>water resistance
100m each. Wash.
>power reserve
60hrs vs 70hrs. point for Rolex
>accuracy
-2/+2 vs 0/+5. point for Rolex
>thickness
12mm vs 12.5mm. point for Rolex
>cost
(new) £6,950 vs £5,120. point for Omega
>toughness
METAS certification includes toughness tests (shock, magnetic fields, rate deviance over the length of the power reserve etc.). The Rolex is probably plenty tough, but the Omega proves it. half-point for Omega
>additional features
none vs independently adjustable hour hand. point for Omega

Looks are subjective so I'm not going to bother. The DJ has been around so long that it's a little boring, but very safe. The Omega is a new watch, so it's more interesting, but we won't know how well the looks age. The pie pan is a nice callback to the Genta-designed Constellations.

I'm not considering resale value since it's "buy one watch for life" but the Rolex will hold its value better. You'd lose less money reselling the Rolex, but you could buy a second-hand Globemaster for cheaper too. So that's a point either way depending on if you're a buyer or a seller.

tldr; the Rolex is slightly better, but maybe not necessarily £1,830 better.

Yeah, I don't like asymmetrical dials, either.

Also, Globemaster is apparently a throwback to when the Constellation first came to the US market and there was a copyright issue, so the watch was called Globemaster for a little bit.

I bet a GMT version is incoming, but short of an actual GMT hand, an hour hand you can switch without changing the time is pretty handy for travelers.

Strength of engineering alloys. The x-axis is ultimate tensile strength, and is extraneous between metals, hence why it is omitted. The takeaway is that stainless alloys are typically twice as hard as titanium ones, and provide superior scratch resistance.

Corrosion is a point in favor of titanium. Of course, taken to its logical extreme, gold is the least reactive metal, and 24 karat gold isn't a tool watch material of worth.

Wrong. Stainless has superior plastic deformation characteristics, as noted by the chart of Young’s moduli. Titanium does have better fracture resistance, except watch components are not subjected to 100 GPa (for Titanium) or 50 GPa (for stainless) fracture forces, whereas they absolutely are subjected to forces that scratch and deform them. Also, most watch components likely aren’t large enough to satisfy small scale yielding, rendering any sort of linear elastic fracture modeling moot.

In essence, titanium alloys versus stainless alloys are: lighter, less scratch resistant, less reactive (i.e. more corrosion resistant), and more expensive.

I suppose you could make a neat watch that has titanium body construction for lightness and tungsten carbide (or other ceramic material) veneers for scratch resistance and hardness, like how Subs and Seamasters have ceramic bezel inserts, except have a ceramic insert for a lot more surfaces. This would probably just end up with the advantages and disadvantages of a PVD watch, though.

>Wrong.
No. Just because you don't think that strength is a useful decision criteria for choosing between 316L stainless steel and grade 5 titanium for use in casing watches does not change that grade 5 titanium has much higher yield strength than 316L steel.

If you want to prioritize fracture mechanics (where both options are several orders of magnitude above what is necessary) over scratch resistance (actually relevant) in your watch cases, that’s your priority. It’s tantamount to choosing a sports team based on the logo, but hey, it’s your prerogative.

One of the arguments generally advanced for using titanium in serious tool watch applications, particularly dive watches, is that a titanium cased watch will resist failure due to impact better than a 316L steel case. Trading away some scratch resistance for that is considered a reasonable trade-off for those applications.

Is it possible to punch some rich boomer, undo his patek and run away again?

I feel like that would be a cool way to get like a 100k watch.

Where's the best place to try? Southhampton?

Dearest /wt/, I'm going to buy a watch.
I read the sticky and it looks like the Casio MQ24-7B is a good fit for me. I like how it looks and I need it to tell me the time. That's it really. I also like nato straps and I know they are pretty cheap. I don't like the stock resin band so I want to change it. I noticed person straps on the cheapest NATO strap site and those looked cool to.

If I buy this watch and a strap will I have fallen for a meme/ be a faggot?

And yet serious diving implements (i.e. dive computers) are housed in rubber or plastic.

If you’re sincerely more concerned about your work-hardened metal watch getting torn asunder via uncontrolled fracture propagation (which is the the K-value describes), rather than being scratched or dented, then I don’t know what to tell you.

Based double digits.
I have the same watch for 2 years already, it's a super cute little shitter. Very comfy to wear, super light, you will bareley notice it.
Some people on the net wrote that the strap is shit, can't confirm. Worked out with it, daily wear, no problems yet.
Nato is a great idea.
Check out their mw 240 line too, they have some nice colors but they are def bigger than the MQ, which ruins the cuteness a bit for me. Just looks nicer when it's smaller.

The pope wears a swatch now. Officially because "his eyes got worse and he cant read the casio". But we all know that the (((swiss))) donated to the church so that this old, satanistic puppetmaster will wear their overpriced shit.
