Case/dial/hand finishing of the quality on that Citizen is not cheap, and no really cheap watch will have external finishing anywhere close to that Citizen.

For one thing, you can visually instantly tell the polished surfaces were done using lapidary polishing machines, which you will never ever see on a cheap watch.

Back again with my Gigandet automatic from the early 1960s. Since last time I posted here I have taken the watch to a watchmaker who opened her up and had a look. It had never been serviced (since the 60s!) and it worked as a charm. He said the only thing that needed to be done was a clean up as some dirt had come inside. This he couldn’t do before the summer since he is too busy, but he reckoned I can wait until after summer. It wasn’t anything urgent.

And you guys were like “OMG GO SERVICE IT BEFORE YOU BREAK IT”.

No, that's pretty decent for a new watch. Pay attention to how that rate changes over the course of time though. Brand new movements tend to have their timing rate change as they 'run-in' for the first couple of months, and then their Tate tends to slowly change over time between services as lubricants age.

Also, if you want to get a more complete picture of the timing behaviour of that movement, winding it fully and leaving it sitting in a fixed position for 24 hours and checking the rate in the dial up, dial down, crown up, crown down, 12 up and 6 up positions will tell you more, but that would require you not to wear the watch while you are timing it, so you may not want to do that kek.

Yes, buy in Japan Grand Seiko was a product line, not a brand, because Japanese consumers are used to large companies making products at every pricepoint from entry level to high luxury. Internationally, consumers have always found that idea very strange in a way that tended to hurt sales, so many Japanese brands ended up making separate luxury brands for that reason (e.g. Lexus, Acura, Infinity).

>Yeah, in the 60s.
No. Grand Seiko was not treated like a separate brand from Seiko in the 1960s. It was a product line, like Seiko's other product lines (e.g. King Seiko, LM Special, Lord Marvel, Business-A, Presmatic, etc.)

Seiko was very specific in announcing that Grand Seiko was *now* a separate brand a couple of years ago when they dropped Seiko from the dials. Grand Seiko is now (in theory) organized as a separate brand.

Of course, in reality, nothing has changed and this is all marketing BS, since the GS production chain still makes watches that are sold labelled as Seikos, and the Credor Micro-Artist Studio makes some watches which are sold as Grand Seikos.

The 3 o'clock position is the traditional spot for it and a contrasting color date wheel makes it easier to read for people with old, weakening eyes.

Normies can't handle a watch without a date window, it goes beyond their comprehension If a normie sees a summetrically well done watch, he gets all nervous and will have a mental breakdown soon.

Thank god there is some sanity left at JLC and they also produced non date versions. The other poster just chose to be a tastless faggot and posted the retarded version.
But what would you expect from somebody that gets triggered into a multi- post war over some goddamn numbers with another manchild?

What always wonders me, why did nobody manage to make a datewindow on the side of the case? That would be some innovation and a nice touch, if done right.
It would be harder to pull off with diving watches, making it water resistant would be harder. But dress watches would be easy to do.

>> No.14236427

>>14236407
>why did nobody manage to make a datewindow on the side of the case?

Probably a matter of overall thickness. Having a date numeral large enough to read would make the watch unnecessarily thick, regardless of the contortions you would need to perform in order to actually read the date from the side of the case.

There are good solutions to dates:
pointer dates are fine and don't disturb the dial's symmetry
putting the date window at 6 or 12 and using a color-matched date wheel is also a fine solution

>Shame about the meme 41mm size.
Well, I mean, it's a super compressor diver, I would expect to to be around 40mm at least given the style of watch.

>Seriously considering a Master Control for my next watch.
Great watches.

>Or a Geophysic True Seconds to trigger the quartzfags in this thread.
Don't. According to a guy who used to post to these thread who knew his shit, the deadbeat second complication gets really sloppy if the watch is held upside down, apparently there is too much play in the complication for it to have the kind of satisfying precisions you get from a high accuracy quartz movement damped against backlash. If you don't believe me, at least examine one in operation up close before you buy.

Wasn't there some guy a few years ago who made a quasi-dead beat movement by simply reducing the rate down to 1Hz?

The only problem I have with it is that due to the extreme matte finish it looks like it's made out of plastic. Oh well, it's been discontinued for ages anyway.

It has the upside of being a beautiful watch with an interesting complication.

That’s a shame, I’ll have to look into it more, it’s the first I’ve heard of the issue. Unfortunately there is no dedicated JLC boutique around me and I’ve never seen any retailer carry them.

It was my pleasure. Or CWC, there are some people that accuse MWC of copying cwc. But i don't give a fuck, it's just quartz shitters, i enjoy the style and don't get anal about the movement.
I got myself this little shitter but with a khaki case. Pic is the best i could find tho. Nice little watch, but for 40€ i have no trust at all in the case coating. If it rubs off, ill just plastidip it in khaki again, fuck it.

That's a way better perspective, keep that mindset up.

He said steel, I'm assuming stainless steel. Surely breitling has something appropriate.
