Le Labo is absolute hipster garbage, friend.

Sauvage is obviously polarizing too, just taking into account the people on here who don't like it.

"divide or cause to divide into two sharply contrasting groups or sets of opinions or beliefs."

>> No.14207589

>>14207578
It’s not polarizing at all. It’s one of the safest scents you can wear. People here and on basenotes and fragrantica turn their noses up at it because it’s popular and they’re hipsters, but the fragrance itself isn’t polarizing in the least.

Also, instead of spraying ankles, it should be armpits and back of the knees, since their are some autists here who actually do that.

>> No.14207597

Again, armpits are excellent for projection because they're the warmest place on your body. Chad should apply to his armpits, while the virgin should apply a spray to both wrists and rub.

Got to try this recently it's pretty metallic or aerosolic throughout. Reminds me of a deodorant spray I purchased at an airport once. Starts off with grapefruit and later becomes more like lemon. You can also smell some spiciness underneath, from the tea note presumably.
Not really out of the ordinary but could be a convenient solution for those wanting something other than the sweet scents common in the market atm. I imagine it could blend better when mixed with smells from outdoors.

>> No.14208104

Aventus is just a very safe fragrance. I didnt like it at all the first time years ago, but came back to it recently and enjoyed it but its just really boring/lack of character, especially as the most expensive and hyped Creed frag.
>>14208095
Virgin Island Water has shitty projection and longevity + is more appropriate for summer year round countries.
People here will spit on VIW but I love it, unfortunately its just not a conventional frag to invest in. If youre set on Creed (and given your proposed options you have a sweet tooth for scents), try Millesime Imperial or even Green Irish Tweed.

Whoms'tever memed me into getting a sample of Bentley Intense, well played. Smells like a soggy orange in a bowl of pot pourri. I'll give it to one of my fukboi friends to attract club sloots.

Whoever recommended TF tuscan leather, that is one weird scent. More interesting than 'nice', smells quite burnt and earthy in a good way, which I think I can pull off as I'm a bit of a weird guy. So thanks, I guess.

If you go to certain sites there are people that simply will not buy anything other than specific batches. Sure, fragrances sometimes get worse, but only the most obsessive people will notice, and even then it’s probably placebo. IFRA ingredient bans are the primary reason why reformulation is a real thing and not some Boogeyman. Oakmoss, musks and various aldehydes / synthetics cannot be fully replaced, leaving the IFRA compliant modern versions of old frags a shadow of their original selves. It's not imaginary and it's not autism; it's objective fact that no 90s fragrance smells exactly how it did when first introduced. It ticks a lot of boxes for a lot of people. But your mileage may vary. For a lot of people it fits that role of a supremely versatile, pleasing yet not boring, timeless masculine scent. But you may find something else that fits that role better for you. Plus you may find the scent fairly common and thus not as appealing where you live. Basically what the other guy said, but I’ll nack him up.

I have both. Oud Wood is a bit more bold, but in a more sophisticated way, not bold like Tuscan Leather. Royal Oud is understated, slightly sweet in its opening, but dries down beautifully, but has a slightly (dry slightly) dated smell. Not dated in a bad way, but it gives off older vibes.

It's base was always a tarry iso E super. What really changed Fahrenheit was the regulation of methyl octine carbonate and methyl heptine carbonate, which at first are like violet leaf but are kaleidoscopic and have weird metallic, green, cucumbery, and strawberry elements as well. Modern Fahrenheit (2016 and onwards) is pretty damn close to vintage but it's still missing a little bit of the bright green ozonic bite the original had.

Have you tried the original Dior Homme? I know it's not something anyone would classify specifically as a 'summer scent', but it can definitely be worn in that season. In fact warmer weather is one of my favourite times to wear it cause the bergamot, amber, and woodiness really sing off my skin without getting cloying. If you already have it, consider giving it a wearing in warmer weather, it may surprise you.

I feel like fragrance used to be more popular in the 80's and 90's. Both of my parents also had small collections and cycled through them. Dad had Fahrenheit, Acqua di Gio, Eternity, Polo, and Aramis. I don't know why he stopped wearing them in the 2000s, but I eventually gifted a few bottles to him and he likes Aventus best. Still doesn't wear fragrance often, and I wonder why.

This is interesting, I do not know about any surveys conducted to support this, but I think the same--people don't seem to be as interested as before. In my experience, I rarely find any people wearing a fragrance.
I wonder what caused people to stop doing that, it could have been a long trend that is starting to die ? Are we producing as many fragrances as we used to ? or a we completely wrong and it is exactly the opposite ?

what's even more strange is the fact that there are plenty more fragrance houses now than before, with some experimental releases for the sake of experimentation. there's a shit ton of fragrances out now and it's become a very niche hobby/demand, whereas back in the day you had your heavyhitters that everybody would wear, but nothing too far out of the same general classifications.

Just got a sample of Ichnusa by Profumum Roma, if you're after a really natural, green summer scent, give it a try.

Doesn't have that synthetic smell you get with a lot of greens like pine floor cleaner, it's got a slightly sweet coconut creaminess to it that balances it out nicely.

Wore it to a works party and my work flirt partner couldn't stop smelling me all night, drove her absolutely crazy, and after a few drinks she completely lost all inhibition.

Tuscan Leather has the same vibe for me. One spray on my wrist, an evening working on my computer (wrist rubbing on my desk) then a hot bath and scrub with shower gel, and when I got into bed my wrist still had a beautiful faint whiff of leather to it.

It's just a shame the intital spritz of TL has a really biting ashtray smell to it. It wears off in maybe 20mins and leaves the deep, rich leathery smell for hours, but damn that first spritz blows your nose off.

How is Oud Wood? I've had Oud Minerale and Tuscan Leather samples from Tom Ford, enjoy both in different ways, but everyone keeps saying TF is a meme, so I'm wondering if I've just been lucky up to now.

I have that too. If the house is burning down I’m grabbing those two bottles.

They might be expensive, but they’re worth every penny to me. Much more so than Creed offerings.

TL does have a harsh opening, but it’s so good. I saw somebody at a Tom Ford counter spray it in the air and wave the card through the mist and also directly on to the card. The mist was so much better for displaying what that fragrance is. It’s much less harsh and more well rounded that way.

>> No.14221176

Oud Wood is one of the safest PB fragrances going. At least in terms of mass appeal and performance. Things like Neroli Portofino smell great but are way too expensive in terms of performance.

>> No.14221177

>>14221171
>How is Oud Wood?
Disappointing. I mean, it's nice and safe. Performance is on the weak side.
The oud is artificial but at least there's very little of it. Then it's a couple hours of vague "woody notes" with some artificial sandalwood, and vanilla and tonka.

My wife's response was "It's nice, but only because I can't think of any specific thing in it that I dislike."

>> No.14221191

>>14221174
When I got it I sprayed it on one of the card sticks and it was brutal, as I gave it a direct blast probably a bit too close. But it's been a week and the card is still on my desk and I smell it all the time, it's got an enigmatic deep richness to it, I'm putting it down to some sort of nostalgia because it's far deeper than just 'smells nice'.

I'm gonna be brave and really wear it next time I go out.

>> No.14221334

>>14221177
I’m the guy above you. I’ve seen some criticise performance but for me it lasts ages. Definitely one to try with a reasonable sized sample I’d say. I wore it to work for a 12 hour shift and it lasted through all of that (a colleague said after 11 hours he could tell where I’d been because the smell was still lingering) but I can’t say I’m not aware of others having performance issues. Far from “bad” performance I’d say, but certainly not up there with the best TF.

>>14221191
Same. I tried it on card an actually hated it, but like you I left it and kept smelling it and eventually I thought “Fuck it, I’ll get a sample”. I got a 2ml sample and near the end I refused to use it because I couldn’t get rid of it until I had a full bottle.

As an aside, do any of you here have any of the lesser known PB fragrances? I’m guilty of it too, but all people talk about are OW, TL, TV and maybe NP. I’d love to own Noir De Noir, but it’s not really suited to my style, and I’ve heard good things about Azure Lime and Plum Japonaise.

Different fragrances appeal to different target demographics. The Japanese, for example, prefer extremely light fragrances, so a heavy oud fragrance would not be marketed to them.

Creed Aventus and Mancera Cedrat Boise, while excellent fragrances, are intended for the Arab and Indian markets, i.e. infrequent showering and not wearing deodorant/anti-perspirant.
If a white guy wants to wear it, fine, but it would still be a little odd.
