I would have looked for an exemplar with non cracked lume. Now you need to reapply it. Also the marker on the bezel and a triangle is missing.

Bracelet is also not very common, the endlinks are a bit special, the round part is a bit specific and will require some searching for proper fitting ones.

I'm looking for a vintage diver and found one I liked on eBay. It was described as very good condition, near NOS, however the seller posted a lume shot where it was really green and bright. Shouldn't that be impossible for a watch from the 60's-70's unless it's been refurbished? Even if it were unused and sat in a drawer for the past 50 years shouldn't the lume be dead or at least extremely faded?

Yeah, it's from the description. Not Ukraine but the seller is from another third world country (not in Asia) which made me kind of doubtful since he seems to sell quite a few vintage watches and divers as well. On the other hand Egypt is well known for it's diving and lots of people visit just for the diving itself, however I don't know if it's more of a modern destination or if it has had a longer history of diving.

The lume looks way to good for a 70's diver, NOS or not, so I assume it's been redone. The seller has a couple of other items for sale as well which seem to be in very good condition and has over 100 positive reviews, there is however also a negative review claiming the watch purchased had been redone. I guess the positives could be from people who have no clue about watches but still, if the person has a habit of redoing/restoring vintage watches more people should be mentioning it.

The seller also claims to clean and service vintage watches and the dial looks to be in very good condition and from what I can tell seems original, matches the watch etc. so I guess it's possible that it actually is original apart from the lume which could have been redone, however even if it has been redone it seems to have been done professionally due to the "cleanliness".

Edited the photo so nobody's gonna steal my find! ;)

Strange that the seller doesn't mention reluming, he does however state that they clean and service their vintage watches and I guess some people prefer fresh lume but still strange. Their english seems a bit so-so in certain parts so perhaps they just chalk it up to the "serviced and cleaned" and don't feel like it's worth mentioning. If you look at the last watch I posted it's obviously accurate for the brand/model (anyone who's into the brand will easily guess what it is) and the bezel etc. is also accurate so it simply seems like they've been washed, perhaps polished, and had the lume redone so it's not like those Indian Seikos.

JLC, of course, makes their own movements, so that's important. Their styling is a lot more along European tastes, so they never get too much traction in the US. Even their sport models are typically restrained.

Ah, no. You can say plenty about their bracelets but "best in the industry" is a fucking reach. I love Rolex as much, but I can still admit that the old Jubilees stretched to fuck instantly and the old Oysters were rattly with weak clasps.
They used folded endlinks long after everyone else had gone to machined, solid endlinks.

At the very least they were extremely comfortable.

Then when they decided to catch up, they made the bracelets so heavy they ruined the beautiful balance that the lighter, shittier bracelets allowed.

Ah, OK. Then yes. Their build quality, especially their clasps, is typical Rolex. I just think they're too heavy.

I was always told the way to avoid stretch in an old Jubilee was to wear it appropriately-sized. Loose enough to where you can slip your little finger in between the bracelet and the wrist, but no more.
That prevents excessive movement between the various components, cutting down on wear and, thus stretch.

I've been stuck in a pattern lately.
I keep finding a watch I like, then be really happy about it for a few months, then it just becomes "another watch" and the magic fades. Then I flip it and try to move up, trying to find one I'll be happy with forever.
Watches I have done this with:
Orient sun and moon
Stowa marine
Longines master collection gmt moonphase
Omega reduced speedmaster
A good condition King Seiko and an old omega constellation that were traded for the speedmaster

Interestingly enough, I like the stowa and the old omega constellation the most of these.

This has been going on for about a year and a half now. I haven't actually lost much money, but what's wrong with me? I wager some of you would say "just get a more expensive watch", but I'm not sure that would work.
