Reposting some of my google finds.

Did some more research into Glashütte watch companies and damn, the employee reviews are scathing and it's not just in Glashütte, it's the entire German watch industry. Plenty of complaints about salary, management issues, high turnovers, and geographic location. Only praises are about the nice work environment.

Watchmakers earn 1800€ gross and that's AFTER several years and salary increases, it's not the starting pay. From A. Lange & Söhne to Glashütte Original, to Nomos to Junghans to Sinn. All have plenty of complaints about management and very low wages. A sad, sad state.

>> No.14177881

Imagine earning 21k gross a year as a watchmaker for a top Glashütte brand... Watchmakers are made to be the superstars of marketing campaigns and they're not even compensated enough.

Put yourself in a watchmaker's shoes. You're hyped up in these savoir-faire videos and yet you earn 1800€ gross a month. Assuming you're working a 40-hour work week, you're making 11,25€ per hour. 11,25€! All that precision work and top finishing and you're paid 11,25€. What the fuck. I can see why complaints are so high about Glashütte brands.

From a 1,61 employee review of Lange:
I do not think it's a good thing that the famous name of the brand is unfortunately not reflected in how it deals with employees.

From a 2,26 review:
Lange Uhren has nothing in common with a family business anymore. The climate is hardly pleasant, especially in non-producing areas.

>> No.14177885

Here's from an excerpt of review from a Glashütte Original watchmaker:

World-famous actors, prominent figures and sheiks come regularly to visit to see the handcraftmanship. They buy their watches in the 6-digit range and I have to buy my clothes at Kick / NKD.

Pro: Once in the summer at 40C, the ice cream man actually cames by and there is anyone who would have thought it would be a free small soft ice cream. Top!

Cons: The simple production worker is worthless there. Employees who work in the office or who are in charge of marketing pull a kilometer long perfume track behind them and do not even get a "hello, or good day" . These people are just something better, but of course they are for the " Image "in charge. It really is a disaster how degrading it is. Of course, every office employee has a company car.

The pro seems sarcastic to me.

Yeah, totally. I hate the fact Longines is marketing it as a women’s watch in their official website, it’s like they want to shoot on their own foot.
>>14177897
I also like how they changed the position of the date, which looks quite annoying on the 42mm version, apparently it’s because they are using a smaller caliber with the same specs, which requires the date window to be there.
I’ve been comparing both sizes (on pictures, since no AD has them yet) and the 36mm seems to be proportionally scaled in relation to the original size (case, indices, logo, strap width...) and I love that.
The one I’m getting is on a synthetic/canvas strap like this one with an interior leather lining, which I like it better than the milanaise (also way cheaper).

Checked my new snk809. After 7-8 hours it seemed to be about 10 seconds fast. So about 30 seconds fast in a day. Is that acceptable? Also, the minute hand keeps moving in time setting mode, making it fucking hard to set the time, is that normal on mechanicals? (I said MINUTE hand, not second hand) I've noticed when you tap the finger on the watch it feels and sounds a little hollow and like the pieces inside rattle a little. I guess mechanicals do that? If that's good enough for you it's fine. You can't expect much from an entry level movement.
>Also, the minute hand keeps moving in time setting mode, making it fucking hard to set the time, is that normal on mechanicals?
No, but it is normal on non-hacking mechanicals.
>I've noticed when you tap the finger on the watch it feels and sounds a little hollow and like the pieces inside rattle a little. I guess mechanicals do that?
Automatics do that. If you have a hand winding movement and you hear something moving around it's seriously fucked. I this case it's just the rotor moving around. Many higher end watches don't have the same issue but a SNK809 is the bottom of the barrel of acceptable mechanical watches.

Can't decide whether I like the dial of snk809 or not. I bought it and I'm wearing it right now, got it a few days ago, but when I bought it it was because I had been looking at watches for months and could never make up my mind so in the end I just bought whatever, also to see if I like mechanical watches. I think the dial is a bit cluttered and not super legible. As for whether I like mechanical watches I still don't know, seems like you have to set the time on this watch like every fucking day because it's so inaccurate, might get tired of that after a while. In general I think the watch is kind of nice looking.

Probably need special tools for that, and a steady hand? I bought a cheap case wrench and tried to open the caseback of my previous shitter, couldn't open it and got a ton of scratches, might be a shit case wrench. Also, my snk809 feels hollow and rattly when you tap a finger on it. Is that normal? One guy here said it's the rotor. But I have an old Citizen eagle 7 that doesn't feel and sound like that when you tap on it with a finger, and that was supposed to be a competitor to Seiko 5 I think, so probably about the same price. On that one the minute and hour hands don't align though and the bracelet is total crap, falling apart.

Who makes the dankest NATO/zulu-strap? Should I go with yellow, green or orange? Or just keep it simple and get black?

What's the point? Steel, gold, platinum etc. are all still soft, why bother making your crystal and bezel out of something scratch-proof if the rest of the watch is still going to age the same? Kinda. For the price they're better than an equivalent fashion brand, however despite how TGV sings their praises concerning their excellent quality control mine came with a crooked non removable link in the bracelet. The watch feels very light, almost insubstantial, but the accuracy of the quartz and nice feeling on the chrono is good (the best part of the watch is the movement, a cheap mechashitter whoered out by seiko to microbrand) I don't think I would order from them again.

Also, delivery was delayed three times because of customs issues on their end (I'm eu).

I need a suggestion boys

> Your budget
Any. I'll be buying a rep watch.
> Watch type, e.g. dress, diver, flieger, etc...
Something to flex on executives at accounting/hedge fund firms (I have a full black suit and a navy blue one, so matching those would be ideal) and on the brats that drive Mclarens and lambos in my uni.
> Desired bracelet option, e.g. leather, nylon, metal
Metal.
> Wrist size or desired watch size, e.g. 17cm / 38mm
Measured with a tape measure and its 16cm.

> inb4 poorfag
You're not wrong.

I don't know shit about watches, and I've never owned one. Apparently rolexes/Tudors are a meme? Guide me blessed 4chan. Don't make me go on leddit for this advice.

It will be hard to flex with it, if you go too flash it will look out of place on you. Why not just go for a simple fake rolex oyster perpetual. You can say your nan died and left you a few thousand.
