Ok, so take the hands of the watch. On 99% of all watches, they are stamped out of sheet metal. If they are blued, they are usually blued with paint or chemically.

UJ hands are forged, precision fitted from three parts, and thermally blued, resulting in a more dramatic hue. All of this is done by hand.

David Duggan is a good guy, he knows his stuff. If status is indeed a factor, you won't find much better than UJ watches. Much rarer and much more hand made than almost anything else on the market. If Patek is Ferrari, then UJ would be closer to something like a Pagani. Both great cars, but one is certainly more of a handmade object than the other, especially in terms of the finer details. Rarer too.

I understand, the Lange 1 can be a bit too overwhelming for some, especially with its outsize date but everyone respects the Lange 1. Any Lange piece is a status symbol so you already got that covered, with other brands such as Patek, it can seem a bit new money and tasteless even though a Patek isn’t really *just* a Patek. The problem lies with new rich people giving it that „glow”, especially when you’ve got niggers wrapping about their diamond encrusted Pateks. Lange just has the right balance. It’s understated enough for the wearer not to appear braggadocious while also having all the „flexing” power that comes with other brands and at the same time saying fuck you, I have taste without having to say that verbally. Watch this video on a visit to Lange’s manufacture in Germany, play it on 1,25 or 1,5x if you want to power through it. You’ll see how much work gets put into making a single Lange watch. https://youtube.com/watch?v=DGAsib-4mCk

I found this, CWC weren't the only supplier, Precista and also Pulsar ( the Pulsars were dogs) were officially issued.

https://www.arrse.co.uk/wiki/G10_Watches

I found reference to MWC G10 style watches on another article being preferred for their chunkiness, more in line with contemporary aesthetics, but they must have been personal purchases rather than official procurement.

So if, like you said, I wanted "an interesting and historical" service watch a Precista would also be an option, but considering that less were issued the CWC would fit the main intent of a beater field watch.

There's so much retardation in this single phrase I don't know where to begin, fucking lmao.

"Collectors" of anything other than maybe weapons are generally pathetic human beings.
They want constant newness to get that high, much like women like to go shopping and children constantly want new toys.
They also tend to engage in this collecting because they have no other discernable skill or interest of their own, so they fill the gap by simply paying for other people's skills and talents.

And "flippers" are even worse, chasing that newness high without actually being able to afford it.

And then there's the fact that collectors collect, and flipping is pretty much the opposite of that.
