My dad has 2 Submariners and a GMT Master and I lust after that sweet Rolex goodness. I've got $70k in the bank saved for a house downpayment. Do I splurge and dip into my savings for a used Explorer? Do I stick with shitters, wait, and make it all the sweeter when I eventually get one?

Bobswatches is really good for used Rolex. Maybe not the cheapest option, but not unfairly overpriced either and reputable with a good selection and service. An Explorer is probably going to be at least in the $4k range unless you want a 1016 or something really old like that which is going to cost way more. A $2k Rolex is possible but kind of doubtful, it'll probably be in questionable condition or be missing the bracelet or have something else wrong with it.

I paid a little bit over $4k from that website for my 114270 a couple of years ago and it was in pretty much brand new condition and I was very happy with it.

I get your point, but let me explain. First of all, a watch is a piece of (((jew)))ellery, so it's inherently a waste of money. I don't get the point of "luxury" ones, but if I was rich I would probably own one in the mid-high tier brands such as Omega. As of right now I own 3 autos, 2 Seiko and a Tissot, and a quartz Citizen.

Anyway, What you should consider is this
1. Looking at your phone constantly makes you look like a huge manchild
2. Looking at your phone is a source of distraction, you just want to look at the time, but a notification pops up and you're distracted by pointless shit
3. Looking at your wrist is a much classier gesture than fishing for your phone in your pocket
4. A watch is a timeless symbol of class and refinement, it also represents punctuality and maybe heritage too. A phone is a consumer electronic piece of shit that is going to be obsolete and worthless in a year.

Now you may say, b-b-but smart watches? No fag, those are the worst. They are large and ugly as fuck, need daily recharging, and on top of being basically toys in terms of construction and looks, they also are a huge source of distraction and overall make you look like a social media addicted manchild fag who can't live without having his pointless normiebook notifications constantly on your wrist. Besides they need charging every 1-2 days, VS automatics which at worst need winding the crown for 5 seconds to recharge.

>Over the years, the Petrodvorets Watch Factory has produced more than two dozen versions of Raketa movements. Some have been equipped with features such as automatic winding, calendars, 24-hour models for polar explorers, anti-magnetic watches (for use in case of nuclear attack), as well as watches for the military. Mechanical Raketa watches were exported to many Eastern Bloc and communist countries and are considered one of the most durable and reliable movements in the world. By the 1980s Raketa was producing five million watches a year.

>The Petrodvorets Watch Factory Raketa, is one of only five watch brands in the world producing their movements in-house from start to finish, including hairsprings and escapements. Most watch brands globally do not produce their own hairsprings, they generally order them from Nivarox, a subsidiary of Swatch Group. This enables the Russian military industry to be independent from western suppliers, especially for producing hairsprings needed in the military aviation industry.

Speaking of less-than-sub money I finally received that 15k tax refund. When I was waiting for it I kinda wanted a sub but lately I've been asking what's the point? They're way overpriced there is probably something just as nice that's more reasonably priced.

I guess as long as you take good care of your items, it should be fine.

This soviet dealer that I get my watches from, has had them for more than 40+ years.

Some of them, without any signs of wear and tear.

You can go a long way by just taking care of it every two days.
