im a total novice to this shit so please bear with me. i keep noticing that my hair sometimes sticks to the side of my head like in the left of this image and looks shit, but at its best it looks more like the right. what gives, /fa/, and how can i make my hair look more like the right side?

Assuming you're only curling the ends of your hair and not actually looking for a ringlet/wave. Then yes a straightener (plus you can still curl your hair with a straightener too.)

The general idea is to put a strand of hair no bigger than an inch between the plates, then move the iron in a slight twist motion upward when at the end of the stands.
