So as the strap of the watch in pic related is pretty old (I got the watch when I was like 13) and I don't really know how to rock the watch in general, I decided to use it during my workouts

I want to get a silicone strap but I really don't know which one is better (quality-wise) and which colour looks better. I know most of you guys have a pretty good taste when it comes to straps so feel free to give me ideas for blue (preferable) or black silicone straps. Also, what do you think of these two down below? If you have any Amazon.com links, I'd be alright with those too. Basically any help is appreciated

White gold and platinum look like steel without the durability of steel, for a ridiculous premium. Don't try to tell me that from another person's perspective they look any different. They also play on the effeminate lack of confidence of men of this day and age, who think that yellow gold is "gaudy", when in truth they simply lack the confidence required to pull off an attention-grabbing piece. Such people should just simply abstain from watches made of precious metals.

Rose gold is for women's watches, of course.

Steel and titanium are the definite materials to use for tool watches.

Alright, watch repairerer here, gonna try my luck at Accutron servicing soon. I didn't want to ruin my working Hisonic, so I got another one. This one definitely has issues, so it's not that big of a deal if I brick an already non-working watch.

The fork starts up fine, but the index-wheel stops after one rotation. Lightly tapping the case makes it turn another one before getting caught on these discolored parts.

I'm not sure if that yellowish stuff is some contamination like dried oil, or the teeth are ground down (I'm not sure if the index wheel is brass or not) to the bare metal. The jewel is clearly oscillating though, since it's blurred.

Good morning wt

The Slava transistor is a Soviet copy of the accutron 214. It's fairly uncommon to find them working with their original could, although a few examples have popped up in the last few months (a few years ago, people were saying there were as few as 3 working examples with original coils; based on the watches for sale this year I think it's probably at least a dozen, and probably a couple dozen). There's also a Chinese copy of the accutron from the same period that is far, far rarer.

The Slava factory building in Moscow was demolished a few years ago, maybe someone found some parts and started making frankens with non-tuning fork Slava parts, Bulova parts and replicating the brown plastic in the movement.

I believe there were a total of 1000 Transistor watches, though I'm not sure if specialized instrument clocks weren't produced, like how Bulova made Accutron cockpit clocks.

Also I just had a though: the original manufacturing machine for the Accutron index wheels was deliberately destroyed, and the exact manufacturing process was already a company secret (also I'd bet clone manufacturers like Citizen were supplied with index wheels by Bulova).

But the documentation, and maybe even the machinery used by Slava may still exist even today. Some Accutron nut with enough funds can maybe hunt down Slava's old equipment and start low-volume production of some index-wheels.

Though Slava's Accutron was reverse engineered and not licensed, so who knows if it'll even fir in American/Japanese/Swiss Accutrons.

>> No.13979839

>>13979808
I guess it's possible, especially for something like a broken index wheel. But that would be very difficult fit the coils, which are the most frequently damaged parts as far as I can tell; you'd have to re-wind new coils onto the brown plastic parts.

That would be pretty wild. I've also heard another collector who's working on tracking down an original Bulova index wheel machine, though not sure how much success they've had.

Regarding citizen, my understanding is that citizen actually started providing parts to Bulova for their tuning fork watches, though I don't know specifically about index wheels.

>> No.13979872

>>13979839
I don't think the coils are the most frequently damaged parts anymore, I think that only applied in the old days. Now every watch repairer has worked on a million quartz movements before ever getting their hands on an Accutron, so they know how to behave around copper coils.

>>13979859
I've read somewhere that the hobbing machine was deliberately destroyed by whoever owned Bulova at the time. Now they're owned by Citizen, and they're certainly one of the few manufacturers with the R&D muscle to figure out index-wheels all over again.

Though it wouldn't be profitable to start tuning-fork production for the few thousand Accutron autists around the world.

Makes sense. I've heard that coils can be burned out on accutrons by using 1.55v silver oxide batteries, but I don't have any direct personal experience.

>>13979872
That's probably true, though Bulova didn't have any trouble selling those limited edition thinking fork reissues for $5k or whatever they charged a few years ago.

>> No.13980006

It runs fine but fast. +30 to +40spd (generally within positional variance standards for accutron 214). It's possible it just needs to be phased for 1.55v, but it probably actually needs a service.

Got my first Swiss watch today lel. Belonged to my grandpa I guess, my grandma gave it to me. I thought it might be worth something for a minute but it turns out it was one of the cheapest dogshit Swiss watches you could buy. She let me touch her vagine under her skirt in their mom's bedroom and my biological impulse took over and I pushed her down on the bed and pulled off her pink panties and after fingering her for a bit pulled my shorts down and had awkward two minute sex with her without nutting but dripping precum like a garden hose.
