I'm not sure this is true. It should certainly be smoother than the piaget 700p, since it samples 8 times per second vs piaget's 6 times per second, if I remember correctly. But the design of the 5s21/42 may result in smoother motion, even given it's stepper motor only runs at 4hz. I don't have any hard evidence. But I can imagine that the hairspring system in the 5s results in less acceleration and deceleration than the braking system in the 9r.

It's nice, but not my tastes either. Not too big on 'classic' GMT watches.. Been looking at the Seiko Landmaster though (pic). Not a Grand, but it IS a spring drive, and it's one of the few GMT watches I've seen in which I don't find the GMT-hand to be disturbing the aesthetic.

That said, I am a walking skeleton and I'm afraid it's far too chunky for me. Also, even though it's just about the most affordable spring drive, I can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on something that I don't really need and will invariably scratch and damage over time.

The citizen cosmotron was a transistorized electronic watch line. The balance runs at 36vph, although the escapement design means the second hand ticks 5 times per second. It also has a flyback second and minute hand via the pusher at 8 o'clock to synchronise the hands at the top of the hour and a gravity-operated day/day quickset. The 7803a came in a huge variety of cases and dials. This particularly variant is a front loader, allowing it to sit low on the wrist. It has an exposed screw on the back to allow the watch to be regulated without removing the movement, and a separate battery hatch. These watches had excellent precision and some were certified as chronometers.

0510 movement, which is usually pretty good. I have an issue with mine where the chrono minute hand doesn't reset properly unfortunately.. It's been back with Citizen already, but it persists :( Still under warranty though, so I'll return it again I guess.
