Guys, I'm in a fucking situation right now. Sold a watch on Ebay, and the buyer says it didn't arrive. I believe the guy, even though the tracking number says it was delivered, but I'm more inclined to believe the lazy incompetent bums of the global postal services fucked up, than this guys trying to pull something on me.

So question is, if the buyer wants a refund, will it be coming out of my pocket, or does Ebay have me, the seller insured too?

Changed battery in an ESA 900.231. These very early ana-digi movements are kinda clumsy, operating their digital display is more reminiscent to the Apollo AGC than a Cizien Ana-Digi.

At least this one worked flawlessly, I had another customer with one that only displayed garbage on the digital display.

Repairing these is out of the question, as parts are ridiculously overpriced, since these movements were also used in pretty collectible Heuers and Breitlings.

For the longest time, I was enamored with the Pelagos.

Pros:
>dive watch

>tool-ish looks

Cons:
>square-ish
>all matte everywhere
>titanium scratches easily

Then I came across the Seiko Tunas, and they're simply better in every measurable way.

Pros:

>tool-ish looks
>nice polished accents everywhere (bezel knurling, shroud edges, crown, lugs, shroud bolts, ...)
>domed sapphire

I wear long sleeves all year round at work and it literally isn't an issue ever because I'm not retarded. You should be able to more or less roll your wrist while lifting it like how you normally do to look at the time revealing three quarters of your watch to read the time day date ect. When you do the opposite movement your sleeve will slide back over the watch. If you can't do that you might be wearing a shirt that is too big for you.
If you are outside so you are wearing a coat or jersey you need to use a hand to slide the sleeve back.

In raw water resistance, sure.
But they're unwearable with their freak proportions.
300m is all anyone will ever realistically need.

Plus, the quartz movements in the Tunas are neat as hell.
Totally exclusive to the Tuna line, overbuilt, high torque, 7 jewels, created in the 80s, 5 year battery life, hits all the seconds markers perfectly, ...

Also, it's quartz, so objectively superior in every practical way to automatic.

Its not an out of the box easy to remember brushing but here are the steps:
360 grain nylon sanding pad
Brush, then polish with steel polish agent and non sanding pad by hand. Then lightly rebrush with the sanding pad and added polishing agent.
Voila, as good as its gonna get compared to Rolex brushing for less than 10$.

Can I ask a really stupid question

When comparing two movements, one is a basic automatic movement with a variance of -20/+40 per day, and the other is a certified chronometer. What is it that makes the chronometer so much more precise, assuming it doesn't have some complication to address the issue (a tourbillion for example).
Is it materials? Is it the construction that is more complex? A combination?

Watches are a fashion thing.

>Watches are a fashion thing.
Says you.
For pretty much anyone with a slight interest in watches (i.e. everyone in /wt/, plus a rising proportion of normies), the tech is a massive part of the fascination.
If it were any other way, all we'd be talking about is fashion watches that look nice but have the most basic quartz movement possible.
Instead we're constantly talking about things like mechanical movements, watch designs that are/were 100% functional like pilot chronographs, dive watches, etc.

>Keyboards, pens (to an extent), games, headphones, beer, and movies (mostly) have nothing to do with personal fashion.
Confirmed for never having visited the keyboard or headphones threads on /g/. They're all about snowflake customization.
Small wonder, considering keyboard and headphone tech is peanuts compared to watch tech, so there's not much to really talk about in the first place.

By doing something that takes skill and developing the skill.
Honestly, any hobby can have its consumerist side. Even simple things like exercise and outdoors activity can get autistic about choice of equipment and methodology. The idea is that hobby’s level of expertise and experience should correlate with the increase of money spent on it.

>> No.13921147

I feel like I would of done that by now though, like I'm not wired to like boring repetition. Does everyone only like the idea of doing something? And that motivates them to do it instead of genuinely liking doing it? I haven't found anything that compels me enough to, short lived attention/motivation fades and then its on the same level playing field as every boring activity. I remember back to when I tried learning guitar, it became more about meaningless gear to me and I never actually liked playing it or practiced much

The hobby with the least amount of gearfaggotry is probably running or climbing (bouldering). There’s not much advantage gear will get you.
I think guitar and photography are probably the worst for it. I do both and I’ve gone full circle and now I just own a compact, fixed lens camera and a Squire Strat and Marshall amp.
I make a conscious effort to practice/play more and don’t get bogged down in the gear.

I’m trying to understand why do people dislike/hate the Royal Oak? If you hate it, is it all of the models in the Royal Oak line or is it a specific model? Personally, my all time favourite is the original RO, reference 5402. It’s the thinness of it for me, the vintage Audemars Piguet text, and of course the petite tapisserrie. The hands and indices perfectly matching the thinness of the monobloc case.

>> No.13921600

I don't know if people "hate" it.
It was an extremely seminal design, and it's uncompromisingly a luxury watch, unlike Rolexes for instance that used to be tool watches but are now luxury abominations in many ways.

It's very nicely made too, they use the spinning tin plate polishing method invented by Grand Seiko ("zaratsu"), so they're one of the few Swiss watches that come close to Grand Seiko quality, but with the Swiss prestige.
