Shoe trees can be used in boots but most of the time its best not to as boots tend to look better with some age

I want a boot that can be styled with both comfy/dressier outfits while still maintaining an edgier/workboot look that can be worked into fits with hoodies, jeans, tees, and more streetwear-ish shit.
I feel like the conclusion is blundstones but im not sure if im ready to commit to the zeitgeist that is the late 20s alternative art student turned yuppy destined to live a suburban lifestyle while clinging onto their once bomemian personal mantra and maintaining that they're still hip.

trying to stay under $300 but if i must i can splurge.
also for reference I'd like to be able to wear like puffer jackets and fleeces and technical fabrics and not have it be too heritage-y but i'd also like to wear like wool sweaters and blue 501s and trousers and still have it be kinda edgy and hip. again sorta leaning towards blundstones but i feel like a combat boot may also work?
considering something like this in that its not full on heritage but its not a full on work boot and it looks good beat up. i like to beat the shit out of my clothing and wear it till its like falling off my body

Get a brush, leather cleaner, leather conditioner, and shoe trees. Insert the shoe trees, brush it, use the cleaner, wait an hour, brush it again, use the conditioner, wait an hour or more, and brush it one final time. Not everything can be saved, but they'll probably look ten times better. You'll probably want to polish them eventually, and maybe resole them in the future.

>> No.13820048

those are real pretty anon. What i'd do is give them a good coating of leather oil, I use obenaufs. Give them a few days after oiling before you wear them; it needs a surprising amount of time to dissipate evenly into the leather. I don't think you'll need a resole any time soon, and those are direct moulded soles, you'd have to glue new rubber onto them.

Can anyone ID these boots? I got them for $50 at an antique shop recently. They're Wolverines but that's literally all I know about them. The logo is stamped on the outside but it has no model number or tag of any kind. I'm guessing it's a 10 wide because it its me but it literally doesn't even have a size tag. I got the old and broken insert replaced yesterday and the saleswoman at a Red Wing store told me if could just be a sample model because even she couldn't ID them.

Gonna post this just so you're not chasing logos like timberline when there's better alternatives. Maybe you like the logo or some specific style, but quality-wise at least blundstones went mostly downhill after moving to China.
Mongrel boots are workwear specific but they're the best quality and comfort I've seen.
I'm still going through a pair of Taipan boots, had them for many years, almost as good in comfort and quality though they scuffed easily. Those are probably more workwear than what you want and I mostly wear it for outdoors work, sometimes with jeans and t-shirt casual. But if I needed a new pair I'd probably go for Mongrels. I like heavier boots for a lot of things, but I dislike what timberlines et al have done to the style and that such memes are accepted and over-priced. Of course that's If you were suggesting blundstones because you're local to Aus or NZ.
New pair I'm looking at getting for more varied regular wear (not so much outdoors work wear) would be camel leather (desert as in actually for deserts, not cdb) or tactical/combat boots but there's a lot of those to sort through.

Red Wings are probably the best you can get for their tier. They're miles ahead of Wolverine or Thursday or Allen Edmonds and similarly priced boots.
But eventually you want something better, nicer leather, more options, top notch QC. That's where brands like Dayton, Alden, Truman (they've gotten a lot better with their QC issues, they're safe) and White's come in. Eventually you may work you way up to something like Viberg tier.

But for their price and what you're getting, Red Wing are kings of what they do.

I wore a pair of thursday captain boots for a little over a year and while they are pretty nice, they wore out pretty fast even though i babied the fuck out of them.
mostly wore them for work, i was a team lead at a retail store so I was on my feet, walking around all day.

if youre just gonna be wearing them for casual use, id say go for it and buy it. but if your budget is already 350, seems like at this point you should just save yourself a bit more money and get something a little more high quality.
