Can someone tell me if the 100% wool is factually proven to be more durable and warm than synthetics? Or is it just an ongoing fad for clothing companies to make more money off of customers who question nothing they buy?

I can definitely assert that wool is definitely better for warmth. In terms of durability, I would say synthetic since wool fabric gets caught onto shit on an occasional basis

Synthetic fibres are almost always better than wool for durability. 100% wool is sometimes more durable than wool/poly blends because the former is virgin wool and the latter recycled wool. Virgin wool can still be improved by blending it with synthetics though. Also, wool/poly blends are often lighter.

I guess I could bring up that the peacoat is a 80% polyester 20% wool blend according to the company. Is that a shitty blend? I know wool-lovers would see that as absolute trash, especially when it comes to peacoats. The thing is the peacoats I see in common stores look oversized, bulky and not form-fitting. If anyone had any references for a good peacoat or something, I'd appreciate it!

This is true of cotton, not wool. Wool is a little bit water proof, rain will soak through but it will dry easily, snow has never been a problem with me, and I have worn pure wool pants and coat in thirty below zero blizzards for long periods of time with zero problems. Felted wool is more waterproof than knitted though.

Wool has been shown to be a very durable and hard wearing fabric. There's a reason it was used for military uniforms.

It's also temperature regulating whereas synthetic fibers aren't. They make you hot and make you sweat.
Get a wool rich blend or 100% wool. People are telling you they aren't hard wearing but I disagree. They're much better than blends that are mainly synthetic. Sometimes synthetic fibers are woven in for strength. Wool is also naturally water repellent, yet absorbs large amounts of water too.

Basically don't abuse your wool coat and it will last you very well. Be warned though, as nice as cashmere wool blends are, they aren't as hard wearing and are more expensive.

80% wool is a good blend.
