You're not getting it. It's not that he just isn't dressing well. It's that what he's wearing is incredibly trashy and tacky, and specifically appeals to trashy people with trashy tastes. Not that this guy's hair doesn't give himself away as pretty low class anyway regardless of the clothes. What he's wearing is not basics. Basics is not a tan coat with tan suede chelsea boots and blown out light blue jeans. He wouldn't fit in in most places because anyone who isn't low class would immediately recognise this style as being low class and trashy.

This isn't me defending meme clothes and shit. For all you know I could be wearing extremely basic, boring clothes that just fit well together. Ultimately, beyond creating an aesthetic and looking stylish, the clothes you wear are social signals. So yeah, if you wear edgy /fa/ clothes you'll probably get hipster chicks (or not, I don't know). But if you wear clothes like the guy in OP's pic you will kill your chances with at least 99% of girls that aren't low class.
