Most of the time, I look dumb as fuck. Generally, the more technical something is, the more it deviates from norms.

I look mismatched most of the time. I dress for what I’ll be encountering. When I’m not hiking I try to dress somewhere between trad and minimalist (but still look like shit)

Generally:
Cotopaxi hat or surplus boonie
Rei Raincoat or Parka
Whatever ratty shirt I don’t care about
Technical pants; non-cargo preferred
Wool socks
Comfy boots.
Ll bean rucksack/gear/trash bag
Beer in yeti coozie to sip on.

In winter I’m layered out the ass.

My geology bros tend to dress better than me outdoors, but they’ve been doing it for longer.

Milsurp does it for me.

Jacket: A parka is pretty lightweight while warm enough to keep you comfy while hiking. If you find one that's relatively matte and muted it looks better.

Top: Wool sweaters and turtlenecks, cable knits and such.

Pants: Wool pants or wool cargo pants.

Boots: Danner makes the best looking hiking boots I could find.

I love earthy tones while hiking but safety first so if you are going hiking in a dangerous area make sure to wear a bright garment.

You should honestly just fucking kill yourself. You look good when you know what you are doing, not while larping as some retard from 100 years ago or some milsurp faggot. Functionality over anything else.

Milsurp equipment isn't bad. Fuck I use a buch of Swedish military shit. I should have clarified that it's the tactical larping that's stupid. Good quality outdoor equipment will almosy always be better than milsurp for general hiking. But they are made for different purposes.

Well too bad but under must circumstances you can not go hiking naked so you might as well pick clothing you enjoy.

I was stating that the key is to dress for what you’ll encounter, not for how you look. Doing otherwise can be dangerous.

But you’re right.

If OP wants to dress hikey, he’s either going to have to spend a fuckton on Kuhl/Outlier/Arctetyx gear, as those fit the best and perform well imo; or spend some time developing a personal style centered around outdoor gear, which is less expensive and takes longer.

I’d also like to note that you shouldn’t do this if you’re not outdoorsy

don't bother getting super technical gear like these fools. theres no good reason for outdoors companies to come out with new versions of each piece of gear every single year, other than to sell you more shit you don't need. hell, they even publish articles talking about "when you need to retire gear" to make you feel like you're literally putting yourself at risk if you don't buy their new bullshit.

buy cheap shit on ebay or milsurp and be in good shape. you'll be way better off than the tech bro with the super ultralight gear

i went hiking with my brother through a national park in utah for a few days in end of june/early july this year and he had ultralight gear, special walking stick, an osprey bag, camel back with the tube that wraps around to your mouth. i had an alice pack, a couple nalgene bottles, wrangler jeans/hanes t-shirt, and a stick i picked up off the ground. neither of us did noticeably better than the other.

only reason i would have really high tech gear is if i were a professional outdoorsman, and in that case i probably wouldnt have to pay for it myself anyway

>> No.13753122

>>13750427
No they don't.

>>13750181
People like OP will never understand, honestly. You won't get through to him. He will constantly talk about that one time he went hiking, for the rest of his life. Because that was the one and only defining outdoors moment in his life, and he will forever use it as a characteristic of his personality.

Almost like... an NPC.
