Postage was £2 more. The watch is from 1977, and part of Seiko's 0 series of modules which were the first LCD watches they produced, the next series removed the crown and used the more familiar side buttons. Supposedly you depress the crown to turn on the light, turn the crown at the normal position to show day and date, and pull out the crown to adjust everything (turning one way to select, and the other to adjust).
>>13715912

Why is Tissot so under appreciated around these parts? They're probably the best possible choice for people who want high quality Swiss watches without spending over a grand. why should one go for an automatic watch over a quartz one?

when I first started looking into watches everyone's selling point for autos was that you never need a battery

why do people make such a big deal out of an automatic when you need to get it serviced every few years anyways to keep it decent. isn't it basically the same shit as just switching the battery every few years?

Clean enough to wear now. Next I'll have to get the module out and see how it's looking after 40 years, and luckily the crystal is acrylic so getting looking half decent shouldn't be too difficult. This is a chunky watch.

memes aside, what wrong with quartz and how can one possibly not "stand it"?

is it just because the seconds hand jumps a tick rather than being more smooth? how can it be that big of a deal when you don't even look at your watch face 99% of the time nor do you just sit there staring at the gears insides etc even if it does have a display window since it should be strapped to your wrist?

am I missing something? doesn't it get annoying that the clock ends up being a little too fast or a little too slow after a bit?

Yep, that's the exact same watch

I explained in this post >>13715927 about the crown. It's pretty interesting and it's obvious why they only used it for a few early watches.

5 years or so. If you don't service it, it will start to run slow and eventually the movement may stop or break. If you buy a cheaper automatic the service will cost around 50-100 bucks, but most brands will also refurbish the watch and make it as new if it's damaged, or so I've heard, in top of giving you 1-2 years of warranty on the serviced movement.

It's as if you bought your watch again but for a much lower price.

Anyway, I heard that modern movements using silicon springs or plastic compound escapements can last much longer than traditional movements made entirely of metal.

A customer showed me a horrible chink fake TAG to examine, saying it's a rep that's originally $700, that he got for like a really good price. I told him it's a chink piece of shit, and showed him my $400 Seikoshit to compare the quality of the finish, just for that extra bit of humiliation. Pleb here. I'm looking for a decent, entry-level watch (<$500).

I'd like it to have a dark-colored (black, charcoal, or gunmetal) metal band, with some kind of orange, red, or rose gold accents on the front of the case.

Almost like pic related, but without being chinkshit.

Wanted to get an automatic watch, but I've read that they are less accurate.

What are some sites where I can scroll through a shit-ton of watches to see if I find one that fits what I'm looking for? Tried Jomashop and Amazon so far.

Agreed though I think the crazy demand of Subs right now means they are kind of overrated too.
