What a fucking monstrosity! And what's funny, they even have some automatics with glass backs, and there is China etched in the rotor. I mean what's the point of having a glass back with a decent looking movement when you have 'chink shit' literally written on it. If you want chink just buy Seiko.

Bait? My honest opinion though, I like them. Elitists autists with 5 digits monthly income here will tell you they're literally shit but they're fine for what they are, pure fashion accessories, mass produced in china ( They can be bought for a fraction of the price on Ali without the brand) .

Remember that everyone here is /g/ nerds who care about shit the general public doesn't even know anything about. If you don't care about the technical aspects of the watch and are fine with a slight overprice go for one. If I were you though, I would spend a bit more and get a quality watch from an affordable but historical company. I'm not a fan of chinks so I would recommend something from a reputable European brand, but Japanese brands are fine too.

My biggest complaint is the fact that it’s a bodged watch in that it’s a chrono bolted into a non chrino movement. Have you seen how the buttons and crown are at different heights?
I like that it’s automatic though and I prefer the size.

it is very ticky and the dial looks very cheep and plasticky.

you could try a Weekender Chronograph tho for about $10-15 more on Amazon. it uses a small seconds subdial so absolutely no loud ticking and the busier face looks less cheap. i love it but dislike my regular Weekender

btw speaking of Timex, they are going to be releasing a 40mm automatic (going after the Bambino share of the King Shitter market). i'm slightly hype, tho i wish it kept the looks more in line with the handwound Marlin

Guys, big problem. I've spent a few hours this evening on Chrono24...and I've come to a rather sad conclusion.

You see all these watches, all within a price range you can afford...and you begin to realize just how much of it is all the same. What I mean is, the ultimate function the watch provides is to tell the time, and with a few complications (moon phrase, chronograph, etc.) you get something somewhat extra. But really...in all reality if you only wear a watch once a day and switch it out for another the next day, then a non-chronometer or non COSC certified watch will do, and added to that one that is manual wind is fine (an automatic wind isn't necessary anymore).

I was looking at pocket watches in particular today, because I've always wanted a 'proper' one...and there are many. But then I started looking at the normal watches too, and I don't know...I just got really dispirited about the whole thing.

I have a few 'grails', but as of this evening, I can't see any reason to save up to get one. It's like the passion about watches has been extinguished, and the only explanation I have is because I've seen so much sheer excess in terms of numbers of what is available that it all seems so abundant and somewhat wasteful.

I'm thankful with what I have right now, of course...nothing will change that. But I'm very cognoscente of the possibility that if I got any new watches, I simply wouldn't have the 'time' to wear them, and I definitely wouldn't enjoy them with the same passion as I did my first mechanical.

Anyway, thanks for listening to a few drunk thoughts...I think I may have lost the passion...and I don't know why. Am I growing old? Or just...less materialistic?

>> No.13710890

>>13710888
you need to get excited about something you can't just log on to chrono24 and buy. Right now I'm trying to find one particular watch from the 50s where only 112 were made. That's the kind of search that can sustain you and keep you interested. When you get one, it's not just about the watch - it's about the story you can tell about how you researched it, searched for it, and found it.

Oh, sorry, I probably didn't explain it right.

I've had these grails for years....but it's only today that it all kinda stopped mattering to me. And that bothers me, in a very serious way. I've seen this happen with other aspects of my life in terms of what I used to find interesting until one day the subject simply wasn't interesting anymore, or at least I couldn't find an instantaneous way to re-kindle the passion.

An example today was looking at the Omega Museum Collection chronograph, which I'd lusted after for years after seeing one in person. They're now quite affordable, pre-owned, but for some reason I....just don't care. It's horrible. Even my ideal grail (Omega 376.0822) is attainable...and thus...not really interesting to me. I'm scared shitless that I'd buy something like this and lose interest after a week. That's horrible to say, but it's the feeling I've had all day now....and with a little alcohol it's only more acute.

In short...I'm not sure if I'm crossing the rubicon or not. It's happened, as I've said, with other 'things' in life...and now I think it's happening with watches too. Have any of you experienced that before?....and should I be worried about my mental state?

On a rather different note, has anyone else (sorry to stay on Omega) see the new Master Chronometers? I think the Globemaster looks okay except for the fluted bezel shit...I hate that...but the pie face is excellent and much needed. They do an 'olympic' version that is really subtle though, and nice....though boring. I'd buy it for the movement engineering, but aside from that it's rather non-descript.

What the fuck is wrong with me...are any of the oldies here? Please help...I think I'm losing my mind...(pic is beautiful, but for an inexplicable reason something I no longer lust after...)

Thanks for responding...I remember that a lot of the regulars moved to the discord, but I didn't join because I have no idea how the fuck it works and I don't trust the tech. But that's another issue....

>maintain at least four hours of watch content per day...

That might be the reason why. I've been working more lately, so I've had far less time to devote brain power to thinking about horological issues. It feels like watches just aren't as important as they used to be in my life...and that's what scares me because they were such a HUGE part of my life for so long.

I'm scared of losing my passion for things Anon...it seems to be happening with so much lately, and I don't know if there's something seriously wrong or if it's just a phase. Thanks for responding. What watch are you passionate about right now?

My mom used to buy me watches for my birthday so I thought why not get a nice collection.
I started reading and watching reviews etc. I started buying my own watches and have now a nice collection of beautiful shitters.
Then I found one that pushed every button.
Since then I tried looking for other models and bought more but never really found something that interests me more than this one.

So now I stopped buying. Waiting for something that will really stun me because in reality I only wear just one.

You probably have some fatigue of your compulsion. Just stop for a while, wear what you have you’ll probably rediscover what you already have.

That or you have some sort of depression and you’ll probably gonna kill yoursel soon kek

It's you...how's the water watch? Thanks for being here and talking Anon, I appreciate it a lot...I don't know what the fuck is wrong with me, but I can't seem to hold it together right now. For the moment, it just feels like everything familiar is slipping away. You're familiar, so that's comforting.

How do you find time to enjoy all your watches? From what I remember you have a huge collection, with lots of important horological pieces. I mean, right now I alternate between the Seamaster and the 1963, but there's nothing regular about this at all...more about what I feel to wear in the morning. Furthermore, I can't imagine owning another watch right now, because there just isn't time to wear it...and if I did own one, I wouldn't be able to enjoy the others as much. They'd all degrade to being perceived emotionally by me as 'ordinary', even though intellectually I'd know they were more than that. Does any of that make sense? As in, the more I'd own, the less special each one would become because I wouldn't have the capacity to acknowledge the uniqueness of each and every one.

What ishappening to me?

Well, my weekends are steeped in work, so the middle of the week is my 'weekend' for now. I've cut down on the drinking as well, to be fair...at one point I was known as 'drunkSeagullAnon'...but for a long time now the drunk has simply disappeared.

Regarding watches, it's the suddenness of it all that has me genuinely worried. It's like a light-switch has suddenly turned off in my head regarding watches. They used to hold endless interest to me, and that's part of what fueled the passion. But as of today, this evening to be precise, something changed...and I have no clue as to why...and I'm a little scared because when this happens I usually don't regain the passion ever again.

No, I'm not going to kill myself anytime soon...life is actually looking more optimistic for me than ever before, and in terms of work I'm happier than I've ever been. But that might also be a cause...that because work is so much fun it makes everything else pale in comparison, and watches now fall into that category.

Holy shit...did I? Well, one thing I'm sure of is that the need to own a mechanical chronograph definitely has disappeared entirely after getting the 1963. The 'mystery' of owning a column wheel is solved, which makes any Speedy plans somewhat redundant.

But what has really changed tonight was that I was looking at many watches, all watches....and they all seemed 'the same'. That wasn't what I felt months ago. Now it's like everything has gone a step further, and the whole thing has lost emotional connection entirely to a point where a watch is a phone is a watch is a phone. Disposable, interchangeable, something that I perceive emotionally as no longer important. That hasn't ever happened before on such a universal scale, hence my concern.

>>13710974
Fair enough...I try to drop by once in a while just to see what's happening, but for a while I knew what I wanted and /wt/ never discussed anything related, so I just lurked, and disappeared. I did encounter my first Grand Seiko in person though the other day. A fellow I now work with was wearing his, and I complimented him on it. He was surprised I knew what it was...but in truth it didn't impress me much. GS people will not like me for saying that, I know...but still, it's definitely a 'personal' watch, one that doesn't have presence, but is one that is quietly enjoyed in private.

Anyway...there we are. Perhaps I just need a good night of sleep. Still...I hate this feeling. I can't help but feel like I've lost something.

Perhaps you're right. No, I don't need a field watch, I'm never in the field. I have a digital that I use on vacation, and I have a mechanical (Rotary) that I'll use if I think I have the potential of getting robbed...but in truth I don't need anymore watches at all. The ones I have my eye on would be for their value to me, or their historical value...but as I said above for some reason right now I couldn't care less. It's a very odd situation indeed.

Anyway, I'm gonna try and get some sleep. Thanks for listening Anons...it means a lot. Here, have a pic of something that I still think is beautiful.

Both the Seiko and the Tissot are serviceable and can last forever. People will tell you theur movements are "disposable", that is because if you send it to the brand's technical service is cheaper for the to trash the movement a put a bew one in than fixing the old one.

So, both things are true to a degree, they are serviceable for life and disposable at the same time.

Funny enough, they have a point, and thats why they have succeeded. Really well made mechanical movements are made to be eternal, serviceable, and dont need replacement of batteries (that are an industrial, chemical product that you are bond to buy forever). The stepper rotor is six-pole in this movement instead of the usual two-pole, so an indexing finger at the seconds wheel is necessary to ensure the movement steps the right amount and in the right direction.

The other quartz movement I've seen that works similarly is the Citizen 8620, from about the same period. That has an eight-pole stepper motor, and the movement actually runs reliably even when the indexing finger is missing!

Yeah, the seconds hand is driven by the rotor. But a finely adjusted index finger is necessary here, to ensure the geartrain steps one, not two, or zero, or backwards. Tudor have some nice dressy but 100m wr with screw-down crown watches that are forgotten with all the in-house and Black Bay hype. They are equipped with top grade ETA 2824 (date), 2834 (day and date) or 2892+modules (complications).

This is one of them, (2892+big date module). But the fluted bezel Tudor Style(2824 date only) is very good looking too. Specially the one with the yellow gold bezel (is finished as unreal as a Rolex DJ's).

No one gives a shit what’s inside your watch. It’s all about the about the appearance. Pay what you want but don’t pretend inferior mechanical technology is better than quartz

Their alpha is ETA 2892 though. So we are forced to answer "yes" on that question.

Tudorfag would either be aroused or agitated by this convo. But likely the latter since he has the black bay. An in authentic one at that

Jesus that strap really ruins a perfect watch. What the fuck is wrong with you?
