So I recently was in the market for a Rick Owens leather on Grailed... but figured it'd be best if I went to my local RO and tried one on before dropping upwards of 1k on something...

I'm typically a US 38 (IT 48) in almost everything jacket ive ever tried on. I tried on a IT 50 and I shouldnt even close it.... is this normal? How much should I size up? 52? That seems rather off....

Any advice on Rick Owens and their sizing would be great. Thank you!

Generally jackets fit one size small. So a 50 should have been good for you. Leathers generally fit tighter than other coats like peacoats for example; slightly dependent on cut, stooges and bauhaus for example are very slim in the shoulders while a bomber style may be more forgiving. If I were you I would measure my shoulder width and compare measurements with a prospective jacket. Some leathers like lamb can and will stretch with wear, so sometimes super tight is ok. Also to keep in mind with closing is chest size; if you're jacket in the chest that's gonna fuck you up a little cuz Rick don't work chest at all and all his shit ain't got no titty (I got chest but I wear 52 ((54 in rick)) so it was all good

Yeah funny enough I tried on the stooges cause that was the style I was after... my Zegna, Diesel, and Allsaints leathers all fit true to size... or some even run big (the Zegna and some of the all saint ones).

I found a Haider Ackermann leather vest at the thrift store in a 48 which fit me perfect so I figured it'd be the same in Rick.

Are there any sizing differences between seasons with Rick Owens? If I get from Grailed it'll definitely be something old

Main difference I can think of is the jackets switch to numbered sizing after 2012, so s to 48 xl to 54 etc. something to keep in mind if you're going after an old one. Leather quality also generally declines as you get closer to present day, with some exceptions for the really luxe pieces. 2014-2015 they used ykk zips on a bunch of shit as opposed to "superior" Raccagni (I say "superior" cuz I deadass pulled 3 of these zips off my jacket last week although I have had it for 2 years and wear it every day). And in 2015 they started outsourcing production to Moldova as opposed to Italy, so if you're snobby or got ethical concerns that's a tidbit.

Hammered lamb stooges from crust is cool, so is the og stag one. honorable mention fw/14 heavy calf, was actually my first jacket pickup but i got a 52 not realizing it would fit too small

Your best bet (especially if you're buying from grailed) is to message the seller for measurements.
Get the shoulders and chest at the very least and compare them to a jacket that fits you well.

also don't worry about like a half inch or even up to a full inch too small shoulders; I can wear 18in shoulder jackets no problem with my 19 in shoulders
