Alright lads who knows anything about throwing a hacking movement into an SKX013? I have two NH36's here and figured that it would be a fun upgrade to an SKX013. They are about the same size at the 7S26 so I assume it would work with the same spacer and hand sizes. The only thing I am worried about is the crown and stem length as it needs to have a new position to quick set date.

And what if, in the time period between purchase and payment, there's an economic downturn or death in the family or some emergency that forces you to dip into the money you commited to the watch? Now, you owe the watch company $10000 and you own a watch worth less than $10000, so you have to sell the watch and you're out a couple thousand dollars.

Anytime you use financing, you are taking on some risk. Even if that risk is miniscule, it's not worth the $100 you'll make off interest on a fucking watch. Buying in cash and don't overthink it.

0% financing doesn't mean you can pay whenever you want.

The watch company wants the money in 365 days.

On Day 364, there's an emergency and I need $5000. In case 1, I sell the watch for $5000 and that's that. I've lost $10000.

In case 2, I pay $5000 of the $10000 I've saved. Now, I have $5000 cash for $10000 in debt due tomorrow. I can't pay the full amount, so I have to pay a penalty on the last $5000 I owe, and probably some interest on top of that. I've lost $10000 plus whatever penalties and additional interest I owe the watch company.

>> No.13635479

>>13635387
It's a 0% interest rate. If you can afford the watch in the first place, there is no drawback to paying it later. The "risk" involved is asinine, since there can be equally dire events happening in the short term. If he can't afford the watch, he shouldn't buy it, 0% interest rate or not.

>> No.13635485

In case 2, you sell the watch for 5000, just like in case 1. Now you have 15,100. You pay the watch company 10k, use 5k to pay for your emergency, and have an extra 100 you don't have in case 1.

I don't know enough about Zenith to persuade or dissuade anyone to buy them. You can never really go wrong with JLC though.

A lot depends on your price range. JLC tends to start higher than Zenith, however their "Master" range is pretty good bang for the buck; lots of cool complications like moon phase, power reserve. Old Memovox's (alarm complication) can be had for good prices.

Caveat; Don't confuse "bang for your buck " and "great price" with "cheap" you'll spend serious money, but it's a JLC. You get what you pay for in JLC land

The 38mm club was fucking hilarious. The lugs were so long and the giant bezel made it look like a dinner plate.

The Ludwig in 38 felt really blocky and strange in the lug department, also too big.

The Orion was the only one of the three which felt 'OK'. I am watiing on the jewler to bring in new models in 36 before buying. I wonder if the Lug2Lug on the 36 is the same anways and it's all in vain.

In all seriousness though, you will be able to make the budget get much nicer watches since you are buying women's watches. 500$ in men's watches could mean a nice Hamilton, but if you lurk enough, you could definitely find an women's Omega used for sub 500.

True it is a lot to pay for a quartz watch. If your wife works in the medical field, she would have no issues with an automatic since she'd be walking a lot. Quartz would probably be better since it's more accurate, never loses/gains time, and basically has 0 service charges.

get a chronograph or a watch with pulsometer scale.
Both should come in handy at work.

does she care about watches or will she just wear it? Because if she is not into watches you can forget handwinders. Does she wear other watches? Then you should not get an automatic ether because my guess is she does not want to fiddle with the watch all few days to set time correct etc.

get a good looking quartz shitter and she will be fine

The right is a customer's Rado Military I just finished restoring. This is the best I could do with this dial, the uppermost clear layer has completely yellowed and flaked away. It's mildly radioactive.

Left is a Swiss Vadux I found in my parts chest and I think I'm gonna restore it. It's so fucking radioactive that I jumped a bit when my radiation detector started clicking like crazy.

Should I scratch the old dead lume off (with proper means of decontamination and respiratory protection ofc) and relume it, or leave it like this? I'm not sure the hands are original, since why would the dial be lumed when the hands aren't.

Also found an automatic Kienzle that's maybe early post-WWII. It only has a shitty pin-pallet escapement (like most Kienzles), but it has 19 jewels, and also a good amount of radiation blasting off the dial.
