I have the feeling some people try to hang on to the belief that there's some merit to mechanical watches beyond their gimmicky nature and Swiss autism, coupled with luxury branding, finishing and price.

Don't get me wrong, I like mechanical clocks and I enjoy some luxury watches (though I'd find it hard to justify actual purchase, especially at my current point in life), but memers make the same mistake the Swiss industry did back then: Most people just want to be able to tell the time, and maybe have it look a bit cool. Ironically, I think that's what saved Rolex and the like in the end: The average rapper or footballer that buys one cars little to nothing about the movement in it, and for their sake they might as well be Quartz watches, as long as they come with that crown on it.

Just buy pretty much any seiko you like then buy a good quality leather strap and swap it out yourself, just make sure it's possible to do so. I'd recommend searching the catalogs on watch sleuth and checking the strap interchangability filter. Or just using common sense, anything with a reasonable lug distance, preferably not any smaller than 18mm

And regardless many of the cheaper seiko models (5) have pretty shitty straps to begin with so changing to a different one is practically a necessity. A lot of people will just get a cheap 5 that looks good and then swap out the strap to a leather or nato, I'd recommend doing that if you want to save 100 bucks or so from your 200 budget depending on the watch and strap quality. Or you could also go with a dive watch if you want to get something in around the 200 budget, but it might go a bit over factoring in the cost of a good leather strap. The meme pepsi one looks pretty good on leather imo. Anyways good luck anon
