Generally speaking: buy watches from watch makers. If it's a designer clothing brand first, the watch is designed for a look but garbage in all else. There are exceptions of course but anything below 1000 bucks don't even consider clothing brand watches. I always think about it as like buying a car from like Calvin Klein or Armani. If it were me and I had >$150 for watches I'd pick a diver over the Orient defender.

Here's an idea, buy a Casio Royale and put it on a leather strap for around $40 total. Then buy a modded Seiko 5 or Invicta 8296OB. You can find those mods here https://www.watchrecon.com/?brand=invicta . The Invicta has a movement that is very well respected at it's own price point, and also at the $300+ price point when the manufacturer (Seiko) starts putting it in its own watches. The Seiko 5 is cheap, comes in tons of options, and if you search on that site you'll find a mod you like easily. Based on the most produced automatic movement in the world which has a well deserved reputation as a workhorse.

While this is true, I think it's important to note that you shouldn't engage or use your crown (especially screw downs) when the watch is worn on wrist. Make sure you get a deployment clasp from eBay or Aliexpress so your strap lasts longer. When you're getting it, the clasp is usually 2mm smaller than the lug width of the strap. I put a clasp under 3 euros on my Hirsch Liberty and it works great.

This Monta Triumph has been getting almost all of my wrist time, my Speedmaster has been left in the drawer for weeks now. The size, the height and the waterproofness coupled with nice looks and an accurate movement make for one hell of a watch. I don't think there's a better deal for about a thousand euros other than used Grand Seiko Quartz or The Citizen Chronomaster.
