Okay, so to me these go together well. I think they can combine like a spectrum - some traits are more one than the other and some they both share.

The fit and silhouette of the clothes are going to be one of the most important. Both pictures have a high waisted bottom and a cropped or tucked top - they are cute.
Left picture, she's wearing kind of dorky clothes but they fit her femininely - tight bottoms, cute color shoes, loose comfy sweatshirt maybe tucked a bit to show her shape. The clothes are kind of dorkdad but they fit her in a girly way.
Right pic - the clothes are schoolgirl-ish but the colors are dorkdadly. A subdued plaid, a brown shirt that could be (and probably is) a dad shirt tucked or modified to fit in a cuter way. Her turtleneck has ruffles or something on the sleeve for an extra girly attitude but it's not too in your face - the colors on both are pretty neutral or chilled out.

The brown shirt in the right pic is a really good example - it fits the left maybe but the fit is more the right and so it bridges the two.

80s and 90s anime has a good example of the fit being always cute (usually) no matter what kind of clothing they are wearing.

I would look at pictures of things that describe both pics and think about which pieces and combinations interest you and how they could fit in.
Programmers and working women from the 80s, normcore, dads, old chinese people, etc. Think about how these things could look cute.
Prep/private school uniforms, anime inspo, korean streetstyle - think about how to tone these down, combine with odd or plainer pieces.

You know, I've been looking into that recently, which is why I said I've figured out a few things. For instance, when wearing a long jacket like this with a hood, it's almost universally beneficial to either wear a low necked t-shirt or a turtleneck (not one that is plushy, but one that is thin). Anything in between (like a collared shirt) is useless, and even a normal t-shirt (with the neck above the collar bones) is not ideal.

I'm still trying to root out the cause...I think it has to do with the perception of the 'head' given the length of the jacket as well as the extra mass added to the shoulders by the hood. Either way, you'll see this kind of thing in nearly every long coated character in the past decade on film. They all either have a low neck, or a turtleneck...nothing in between.

Fortunately, since the people I hang out with knew that I lived in the UK for many years, the flag isn't an issue, and given where I am I'd assume it wouldn't be an issue anyway because people wear whatever the hell they want to wear, flags included. While I would agree with you under normal terms, clothing today has extended towards the globalist ideal that was discussed in another thread. Everyone is an inhabitant of 'planet earth', and if you deal with multikulti on a daily basis like me, the prevailing attitude towards anything that represents a 'culture' is of what was past, not what is now. I understand your point of view, however the meanings that you derive from the clothing are simply non-existent or entirely different to the meanings people AROUND ME derive from the clothing. If I were out with you, where you live, with your friends, this jacket might be inappropriate. Where I live, sandals are utterly useless, linen shirts/trousers are wasted, and people are so inundated with 'culture' that individual cultures are meaningless and empty. Anyone can wear anything, without the spectre of cultural appropriation, and I'm thankful for that, as I've seen what havoc it can wreak when enforced.

This topic deserves more discussion, and at the risk of hijacking the thread for a moment while so many are asleep, I have some ideas.
1) the meaning of a flag vs. the meaning of words in a script that is not European.
There's a company, I can't remember which one, which was insanely popular when I lived in the UK where they had the German flag colours on a patch on the left shoulder, in the same place. I'm sure someone here knows what I'm talking about...they're green/brownish military style jackets with buttons instead of zips. Anyway, you saw at least 3 of them on the way to work in the morning on the tube. I can't honestly believe all of these people were German (or potentially Belgian, given the colour combo), and I know a few who wore the jacket and were definitely British. They didn't care...the flag was a symbol of the brand or origin of the jacket, not a political allegiance or statement. With Japanese script on clothing, or arabic, or cyrrilic, or anything that is not of the alphabet (though Greek would fall into this category as well), I think it's the same effect, or at least equal. It's seen as a statement of where the product came from, not that you necessarily support the politics of the origin. Like wearing a bruce-lee t-shirt...you might like the guy, or wear it for irony, but it's unlikely you can fight as well as he can.

2) lettering as an aesthetic symbol, devoid of meaning outside of the shapes and colours.
This is interesting to me....If someone can read Japanese, then seeing Japanese script on something is not a symbol or random collection of strokes. It has meaning (assuming that it's not gibberish). I cannot read Arabic, so to me it's beautiful writing, but nothing more. But obviously to someone who reads Arabic, there's words and meaning behind the words. Tattoos in script have this problem, don't they?

The biggest problem of course is that everyone attaches meaning to visual things in their own way, so there is no way to predict what could be meaningful and what may not be. Language script has the benefit of being far more complex than a flag, so perhaps that's a reason why any flag would be more prone to the concerns you noted earlier. However, a flag like this one has centuries of meaning attached to it, depending on which part you see and which part you remember, so perhaps the complexity still resides in the symbol, just in a different way.

for a while I was trying doing strictly Lunar core but realized that that was dumb.
Over time I've diversified my tastes, but I try to reign everything in a bit so my overall appearance is cohesive.

Basically I think it's best to have a few aesthetics you can use depending on the occasion.

Lunarcore for outdoor activities or extreme weather (Biking, Blizzard, thunderstorm)

I haven't had the chance to put together my wardrobe yet but basically it uses straight loose or relaxed fitting clothing to create a "lounging" sense of Comfort.
There are some images that have fits with slim or straight pieces but even those seem coordinated enough to not feel restraining.

Colors are very low in value and project an earthy palette.

There's also a version of This style that I've seen applied for biking and hiking that I'm trying to figure out.

This isn't really a solid aesthetic with a proper backing but more of a 4chan thing that I've seen pop up as 1 or 2 threads.
It would be nice if I could make a this for myself with it though, since the style seems really basic, and can serve as a springboard for new ideas.
