(3,777 Items) for Sale on Grailed.
There's a million ads all discounted on Grailed of people who buy Rick Owens clothes and shoes and then wear them then sell them. Why? If the clothes are so good then why does everyone sell them. No one is buying them or wants to clearly, judging by the sheer amount of ads lol. So why. Why even buy them in the first place, you don't end up even keeping what you buy, and then you think you can just sell them? Sorry, but that strategy doesn't seem to work does it.

>> No.13294013

Rick Owens is edgy trash that kids who turn 20 and get their first decent job blow their paychecks on.

I can't tell you how many stupid Asian and whites at my office start dressing in rick after a couple months. They go from nerd to try hard nerd. Some of them go full autist mode into techwear. It'll be sunny 80 F and dumb fuck is wearing an acronym jacket and cargo pants.

Nobody keeps RO clothes because somebody in real life says "those shoes are so big" or "it looks like you shit your pants" and they get self-conscious about wearing those items so they sell them off.

Here's the deal... a lot of people who are into fashion, are actually more into photography. They just don't realize it. They buy fits that look great in photos, at the right angles, in the right poses, with the right background, with the right lighting and the right photo editing.

The reality is, many of these fits look absolutely absurd in 99% of real-world situations. The likes and reposts they receive online are starkly contrasted by funny looks, whispers and finger points in a public space.

There is a fine line between the runway and the street. With Rick gravitating toward the conceptual runway side of fashion; thus making anyone dressed head to toe in these fits while at the grocery store look like a complete bafoon.

People soon realize this. They can't handle the bant and sell their shit to someone else who will soon realize the same.

People buy clothes and sell later it’s extremely common on Grailed. It’s rare to find good hyped rick pieces such as the cargos, leathers, combat boots etc and even a lot of knitwear is hard to find it’s usually slim fit shitty weirdo turtlenecks

There are two extremely valid reasons for this 2nd hand maket :

Firstly, Rick got quite a bit of hype because of pleb artists. But his pieces look completely out of place worn with hypebeast garbage. When hypebeasts eventually realise that (which can take a few months/years, as they are widely known to be slow on the uptake), they resell. That's the reason why Grailed is saturated with Rick's most meme pieces (i.e. geos, ramones, to a lesser extent pods and double layer tees ...)

Secondly, many (and by many I mean MANY) rickfags are broke faggots who can barely afford Rick when it is on a 50% discount. So there is a very strong second hand maket between rickfags, not only on grailed but also on some forums and facebook groups. Many guys who daily wear Rick head to toe constantly have 10+ items on sale to try and get funds for their next purchase (which they will also get in used condition or at a -80% discount on some shady website, of course)

>>13294487
This Anon is kind of right as well, but fails to see the bigger picture

There is a transition phase for any rickfag, where you go from "normal" clothes (usually from a garbage style) to full goofninja over a few years. During this period, you have no clue what you're doing and you are basically LARPing. That's when people will stare at you on the streets, and that's when most will give up

But there's more to it : once you've gained a bit of experience, know what you're doing, and most importantly developed a taste of your own, you drift away from basic full rick to start wearing it differently and mixing it with other designers. At that point, you are not cosplaying anymore, you know how to play tastefully with your proportions, and you have a style that suits you and is not copy/pasted from a lookbook. People who get there look great wearing rick without being laughed at. But once again, not many make it this far and most either give up on their way there or get stuck in rick circlejerk communities

You dont cycle through clothing? Grailed is a ton of kids and asians. You need to be older than your twenties and dont give a fuck what the hype/teen/'fa' crowd thinks to pull off rick. You cant look like you saved two paychecks from the entry level media job for some ramones.

The hypebeast street wear consumerist do this for every brand, they trade in old hype for new hype. Rick Owens has always been a lifestyle brand that demands a certain level of maturity, you have to afford to look silly or edgy.

The true Rick fans have always been oldfags that don't care about trends or hype, and are just nostalgic about the a dark minimalism that they see constructed in Rick. This nostalgia can be said about many older designers.

What's going to interest me is what the current hype brands develop into in a period of 10+ years. their audience has been influenced by culture, rap and hip hop has definitely helped bring a new audience into fashion and some brands have no real integrity beyond hype. You can already see brands like Vetements and Gosha slowing down in response to the hype dying down.

Cause it's ez money
It's not really connected to me being in to rick in any way either, I'd be doing it no matter what cause I'm literally making money while buying designer clothing on the side
It's like, I'm interested in some designer and I have no means to visit actual stores that stock them so I just buy and resell their things I find interesting so I get more familiar withe the stuff and at the same time I'm making enough bank to not actually drop a cent of my 'own' money in to this retarded fashion shit I'm in to.
There are really no down sides, some day I decided I don't want to be in to fashion anymore I can make good bucks getting rid of my wardrobe too.

it blows my mind people actually buy and wear RO. His shit is so unbelievably ugly. I know people who are completely out of shape but have a closet with at least $3000 worth of Rick Owens- yet they have the nerve to complain about how they have to work overtime to make rent and that they can't seem to find women. Maybe because you dress like a fucking retard and your body is shit. I have never in my life seen someone look good in Rick Owens

Its been said many times in this thread but i'll say it again in my less articulate way.
The clothes look GOOFY and the dudes who tend to get into it are spending a lot of time on the internet as they get into it...seeing only pictures of the fits in all the right settings and not seeing how retarded the shit looks outside of pictures let alone once you're moving and winds blowing. So they get the clothes and get some fit pics then realize unless you are next to god level genetics then youre probably going to look like a mix between a sith lord and the hobbit. So they sell it and go from there usually honestly just getting as goofy of clothes from other brands and starting the cycle again.
