How did champion get big again? Thoughts on it?

>> No.13280108

It was a trend that came and passed already

>> No.13280111

for better or worse, pyrex vision and a bunch of other little streetwear companies using champion hoodies probably helped. it was always around and huge in the 90s as a brand

i was able to wear shit that I bought at walmart before i was into fashion and get compliments, so I like it. it's comfy

>> No.13281813

Depends on the demographic and upbringing.

Suburban kids think it's big now because it's become mainstream but it's been a huge thing amongst "the hood" for a long time

>> No.13281854

>>13281813
yeah but the hood has hated it for a long time because its always been off brand outlet store trash that you only buy because you cant afford better
desu not sure how this blew up, although its true they're basic sweats are good quality(or used to be)

>> No.13281858

It used to be really popular here like, 20 years ago. I hadn't seen it since then, but I just came back from Japan and it's fucking EVERYWHERE there. Every single store had either Champion or some similar knock-off.

>> No.13281868

>>13281854
>yeah but the hood has hated it for a long time because its always been off brand outlet store trash that you only buy because you cant afford better

Which is why it's even crazier to me that now Champion is collab'd along with overpriced/hyped shit all over, and people lose their shit over it. It makes absolutely no sense.

>> No.13282064

>>13281854
Not necessarily true. Growing up in nyc during the 90s and 00s, the reverse weaves and "super hood," kkk-type hoodie were always a thing in the hood.

>> No.13282084

I honestly don't understand generation z.

A pink hoodie with the champion logo across the chest sells for $100 used now....to men....

????

Wasn't champion the brand you buy at Target?

>> No.13282144

>>13282084
They have their walmart selection now they have hype collabs. Just like how levis has their kohls/mall selection with shitty qc and their nicer shit that doesn't fall apart as easily is pricier and only available at flagship stores.

What's the sizing on these? If I wear a regular large hoodie. And want a comfy, slightly oversized fit, what size do I get?

>> No.13282204

I never liked champion. The arms were too skinny on the t-shirts and the sweatshirts shrunk up, especially the crew necks.

They are inoffensive though.

>> No.13282206

>>13282204
Yeah, Champion sweatshirts shrink a lot. It feels low quality to me.

>> No.13282216

The XXLs were always made too short and they had a huge ass neck opening that you could fit a watermelon through. For a athletic wear company their XXL was made to fit Don Vito not an athlete.

The fit was always really weird for Champion.

Are you trolling? Champion hoodies are already crazy oversized as is.

>> No.13282563

the only reason champion got big again is because of our irony driven culture, which is probably at its peak in fashion, as well as nostalgia trips being had by suburban kids who are now in their 20s, wanting to dress in clothing somewhat representative of their upbringing

Was never big in the uk. I vaguely remember it next to Umbro and Fila in the 90's. The reverse weave line is all you can really get here. I'd say it's starting to pick up here because of rappers and rise in streetwear in general.

Can someone explain when a brand like Champion which was cheap and working class becomes cool? I feel like I was ahead of the curve here by 10 years. Same with bomber jackets which I was given shit for since North Face Jackets were the thing at the time, now everyone has a bomber. I just find it amusing and confusing that when I wore this stuff back then you were considered poor and bottom barrel scum, and now it's the cool kid uniform.

>I guess they don't have to be, they can buy it.
yeah exactly. this is my armchair psychology thesis on it. but like you said you bought it because you didnt care and just needed something to wear. Think its just about exclusivity for them at that point. When all your friends can all buy the latest high-fashion shit just like you. it becomes like us dealing with all the kids in hs/college wearing stan smiths.
Which becomes funny when you realize some dude like you who always wore champion. can probably get accused of riding a trend because some celeb decided to wear it.

Probably has to do with their marketing and presence in international markets. I was in Tokyo a couple years ago when a Champion store popped up there. It felt like a boutique, not a huge selection, everything in there was really expensive. It seemed hilarious to me having grown with Champion brand PE clothes in the US. They're biting Supreme's "premium street clothes for cool kids" strategy and it appears to be working.
