Military surplus boots. Australian manufactured infantry boots are the ones i currently have and i literally dont wear anything else. they're great for both hiking and my work, super durable and incredibly comfy. Im a bartender so i need boots that a) are waterproof, b) can handle chemical spills from cleaning and c) look good. infantry boots are all 3.

Anything from the last 10-15 years will be pretty much good to go immediately whereas any older than that really will need a fair bit of tlc.

caring for leather boots is pretty easy - if they're super tough when you get them then buy some Dubin or uncoloured leather moisturizer and lather that shit on, let it soak in overnight, and wipe off the excess in the morning. if they're super scuffed up then youll need black polish (whether you need parade polish or just a regular matte black depends on the finish of ur boots already).

If you cant quite find ur size then you can get a pair thats like maybe half a size too small and put a watertight bag of water inside and then put them in the freezer bc the water will expand and stretch the leather, but make sure you dnt bend the leather while its frozen + stiff or else you'll wreck it.

soz for wall of text im very passionate about boots

Nah, even with thick socks on the leather is actually creased so it pushes inwards, the right boot fits fine, just the left one is like that, I think it was crushed under something heavy on accident while it was being packed up or something that did that do it.

Eh, they were twenty bucks and a first dive into the question "do I enjoy wearing boots?" that I've been wondering about since I wore nothing but low ankled boat shoes, moccasins and sneakers before buying this pair.

I might as well give it a try, and then spend a bit more on my next pair anyway since I have concluded that I do like to wear boots.

also throw the soles out and get some new ones if they can be removed. Yeah broken in boots are comfy as fuck but breaking in your own boots in the most important part is even better. you're only missing out on wearing in the leather or whatever fabric of the exterior is, and thats more of a story/attachment thing than comfort based. unless you crease the toes on your shit often and these don't have them/vice versa

Don't just go by what you see worn around you, either; go by whether or not something works for you and works in your area. Does it do what you want and not violate any obscenity laws? Then it's acceptable. Protip: not everyone is going to like what you wear, but most people will accept what you wear unless it's offensive or too outlandish (or out of uniform code for workplaces).

The creases aren't too bad imo, I've had my 1000 miles for only a few months and they're pretty creased in the toes, and that's with shoe trees and almost always waiting a day between wears. But $160 for used 1000 miles seems a little steep, I got mine new for $200 and it's not too hard to find them for sub $250. I'd try to haggle the price a little

im looking to get some not too expensive chelseas and these two are on sale but im having trouble deciding on which ones to purchase. I like the classic slim design of the first one but it also looks cheap and the soul doesnt look too high quality either. The second pair costs more and looks a little chunkier with it having the original dr martens soul, it also has a intetesting design and looks more high quality. Opinions?

How often do you wear them? Do you condition and polish them regularly? Do you use shoe trees?

As someone above posted, leather wrinkles and starts looking like that once it has been used. It happens with every leather product. The dividing factor is that shitty leather cracks and starts flaking off and may even develop a split, especially when dirt, water and salt start accumulating inside the crack. Advise to your local cobbler about different products for conditioning that leather, let them dry for 24h after a day of wear, wipe off dirt and excess stains with a damp cloth after a day of wear and when drying them, use shoe trees. Take these steps into account, and the wrinkles stay as wrinkles, and don't develop into cracks.

What brand of shoe should I look at if I want something like Doc Martens but without the yellow stitching on the sole? I like the look but I think that stitching would look better in black instead of bright yellow.

Also how bulky are Docs? They seem rather wide/thick while I'm kind of a slim guy, and find the Austrian meme boots to be as bulky of a boot as I like to wear on most circumstances, not including hiking where thick boots are justified.

Nike's combat boots are trash. They fall apart so easily it's ridiculous. I had a pair that didn't last me a 2 week field training exercise before the sole became unglued, which was a huge inconvenience.

Yes, Trumans with a brown pull up leather which is toned down as I clean and moisturize all my leather footwear regularly. Wide fit and kind of rounded sole. My Vibergs >>13148708 same as pic here are much dressier. I rate Trumans on that level but with a different look and feel which doesn't easily come across in photos.

Wolverine and Red Wing stuff is decent but they have their own look and fit. I had some 1k Miles for 5 years, which I'd bought used, before upgrading. My honest advice between any of the very good mid-range general boots out there and the more expensive special leathers and styles is in knowing precisely what you want versus just going for a general all around boot.

If you're not 100% certain you want a vintage service boot last with black chromexel and a dainite sole but no speed hooks, pull tabs or lining then maybe hold off on dropping $800 and try something more general that fits you well for a while. Just a thought?

Engineer boots are very cool but avoid Chelsea boots as they're everywhere and on the worst people.

The pen method of establishing even creases is basically holding a pen down across the top of your boots and lifting up your heel. The pen shaft puts the crease flat across the top instead of potentially odd sideways creases forming on their own.

The last point I'll make is that if you've ever had a leather belt that has been with you for a few years and is broken in perfectly to the point where you use it all the time but never even think twice about it then you know what your end goal is with the boots you are looking for.

I like what you said about a leather belt. I have had the same leather belt for so many years that I can't even remember when it was I actually bought it. I've just always had it, always will and don't even think twice. It's just part of me now.
That's what I want in boots. I want something I can wear for years everyday and have them be so comfy.
As for look, I love the look of service boots in a smooth brown leather, and a toe cap is fine, I like both styles. I like Red Wings but I'm torn between a bump toe or not, sometimes they look nice, sometimes they look too clownish.

That's true, most real paratrooper boots have like 15 sets of eyelets that are all super close together so you can lace them super snug all the way through the ankle and calf.

The hooks on the austrian boots are a good compromise for most things other than jumping out of planes in my experience. If you lace them tight they'll be pretty supportive but will still flex a little if you put some weight into your ankle. Pretty comfy for /out/ imo.

Suuuper comfy.
About 70% of men's boots that are sold by Palladium are the exact shape as that, just different materials and colors.

The ones linked are the ones I have, and they do extremely well for walking and running around. Very very comfortable as well.

My only downside is that it's not really waterproof above the rubber, but since that's on top of the foot, it didn't really get wet unless I was walking through deep, powdery snow.

That being said, there's a whole lineup of waterproof, non-canvas boots the same shape as the one linked that you can get for $20-$40 more.

No, you are drawing an alternate conclusion than the point rather clearly stated initially. Speed Hooks may catch and HOOK more than the boot's laces. That is the concern.

Speed Hooks don't allow increased shifting of the boot laces compared to the other or alternate eyelet holes. If anything I would image they would decrease lace movement in that area. So, not only are you making a different point than that which was originally stated but you are also in fact wrong in your own assertion. Can you please burn your computer.

Yeah but only put it on when the leather is actually dry. Beeswax based conditioner is fine too

I like these, but that's mostly because I'm a larp tier milspo autist. They don't actually resemble any boot that I can think of, but it has a lot of the features I'd look for in a boot: short to med hight, flat toebox, lanky shape, etc

Yes, when I look for a new girlfriend I want a trailer park hood-rat used up former prostitute. Lots of broken teeth, blown out ass-pipe and plenty of warts on her labia etc.

Hopefully this won't die too soon, but does anyone know of some milsurp boots that are actually of generally high quality? Was thinking of picking up a pair of BW KS2000, but couldn't find any info on them.

If you can afford it, buy the Solovair's.

The dullness comes with usage and time, DMs use plastic-y, "hi-shine"-leather.

This unironically looks like the result of one of those video game character selection screens that lets you customise a character’s head, torso, legs and feet by sliding between options.

i guess the only other thing I wonder in this case is whether to go for the grease or "hi-shine" Solovair. I think I'm still leaning towards grease even if they're £20 more.

I have the grease ones and I would choose them over my Docs any day. Had a pair of High shine Gripfast and they were not as easy to pair as greasy solovair's.

Ordered pic related (Solovair Derby Boots in black), turns out they are a size too big for me. However, it feels like they are not just too long, but also as if there is too much air between the boot and my toes and my upper front foot. Does anyone have experiences with Solovair/this boot/this problem? Can anyone tell me, if the problem is caused by them being a size too big?
