maybe red lanterns on the sides of the white for the uncovered hanging lights? I like the El Huervo poster but the Hotline Miami one might be a little redundant. Also, move the picture of your family from the radiator to your desk. Maybe some red or maroon throw pillows?Looks comfy though.

3rd year architecture student desu
general things to make rooms comfy:
- textures: blanket on bed, wool, carpet
- ambiance: multiple lights with lower lumens and warmer colors. a strict rule is to never use your main hanging lamp (unless you need a lot of light to check something or idk)
- wall decoration; posters, paintings
- aestethics: plants (also big ones in pots on the ground, hanging from bookshelves etc), books, artwork, props

your room is bretty gud, but lights look a little too bright. replace the bulbs for lower lumens and warmer light ($20-25) and it will greatly improve. get some indoor plants for $20 with pots and it will already be a ton better.

I'm moving out soon and want to use the smaller of the two bedrooms as an office/art studio space. How do I keep it comfy? I've been restricted most of my life to never displaying my art or having proper tools, as well as not being able to freely decorate and furnish, so I'm not quite sure where to start.
Also, I'd be sharing the room with my boyfriend's computer work station, so I'd like to keep my own space small.

I want to rent an unfurnished place to avoid the aesthetic horrors of furnished apartments.

The trouble is, I would be renting it for only about six months. For that length of time, it would be more normal to go for a furnished place rather than having to buy furniture and then ditch it or pay to transport it. But I'll need to do it all over again for another six months, and so on for a few years.

So how do I make a place palatable and liveable with the absolute minimum amount of furniture?

I'm thinking True Detective-core, but I want more color. This is a serious bind for a maximalist decadent dude to be in.

not really desu
i hang my jeans, trousers, sweatshirts, shirts and jackets. i fold my tees, knits, loungewear and underwear.

during the summer some pieces hang for months and they never get really dusty. they're probably dustier than other pieces, but if you shake it a lil you're fine.

only downside is that its tempting to get it off the hook through the neckhole, but this will fuck ur neckline the more you do it, depending on the thickness of the neckline fabric and stitching.

It is basic color theory, this looks like made in Sims by a 12 year old, sorry bud.
Besides, green walls have bad effects on your psyche, they use walls like these in jail cells.

If you want green stuff, that is fine, but you have to pair it with fitting colors for it to look pleasing, this doesn't look pleasing quite objectively just because of the huge amount of green.

Dont listen to those persons talking u into removing the green.
First whats under the carpet, hardwood?
If theres hardwood remove that uggly ass carpet, and let that floor shine.
Also ur having two or tree diferent types of wood in that room, remove the sofa legrest or change the tone of the bed frame to sdomething more matched.

the wood thing at the side of the table, ill remove it since the shape is out of place with the rest of the room.

Paint the wardrobe doors, ina dark olive green or Teal, i actually biased with teal so il lget Teal.
that room will work if yu darken it, yeah i know here everyone like white room white everything, but u can go for a dark boho, earthy vibe with thast room.
https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/9-dark-rich-vibrant-rooms-that-will-make-you-rethink-everything-you-know-about-color-226646
Get some black framed paints to hang in the walls, and also u can paint some missmatched stuff black.
Ill maybe pauint the bed, and polish those drawer knobs, to make them pop i actually like them a lot, but they dont shine that much like they ar now.
Also ill change the tapestry in the sofa, ill get black cloth for it.
Now i dont truly dislike anything u have, i really like the bed except foor the side thing, and i dont disliek the sofa, is jsut those two pieces dont work that well together.

Illustrator here.
Depends on the kind of work you're making. I like keeping my digital workspace and traditional art workspaceas seperate as possible. I also like keeping my desk as clean as possible, keeping only the essentials- but some people like organized chaos while working so really its up to how you like working.
But basically, you want an organized space with a designated spot for all your tools. Make sure to also keep a few things around that inspire you- this is meant to be a place of productivity so you want to have a space and things that will foster that.

So I am finally leaving my govt job and going into the private sector, and I am planning on leaving my life in shitbox apartments in renovated old houses and hand-me-down furniture behind too. Ive actually got pretty nice bedroom stuff that I won't be replacing, but I need a new living room. I'll probably have 1-2k to spend. I also have a kitten who I can't seem to keep from climbing on couches/chairs, despite the cat trees, scratching posts and other shit I buy her. Any recommendations on where I should look for stuff? I don't have a new place picked out yet, so I am not 100% sure about style, but I like cloth, wood and darker or neutral colors, natural looking but sort of minimalist too. I used to keep a few plants but the cat is at war with them so they probably won't feature prominently in my new space unless I devise some way to keep her away from them.

Ikea's quality is shit. Literally the Zara of furniture. It'll take you hours to put together shoddily made furniture. If you have to, you can probably pick up some cheap Ikea bookcases off of Craigslist for around $40. Check local flea market and antique malls for good quality shit (especially wood) and don't feel like you have to rush to get most things other than the necessities. I've found that shit like this leaves you with a hollow feeling if it doesn't happen organically (i.e. you drank some wine with your cozy gf and now you want to light candles but don't have stands etc. and you wake up and see that in the morning). If you like it from a Pure Aesthetic point of view I say go for it, but from your post it sounds like you're trying to capture an ambiance or are drawn to an implied lifestyle.

Maybe? I don't really see candles as romantic so much as an extremely cost effective lamp.

(I am more interested in avoiding negative connotations than in implying a lifestyle. So it's aesthetics minus the socially awkward aspects.)

I say cost effective because a lamp as cosy as a candle would need a warm light bulb, a dimmer function, a randomised flicker function, etc., none of which is spontaneous and therefore all of which is tryhard.

The bottle is the difficult element.
In a bachelor pad, it's spontaneous and casual in a way that a Victorian style candle lamp would not be. Unless of course I'm mistaken, and people see it differently.

A small thrifted candlestick could work in a bachelor pad, but the multiple candlesticks required for good lighting starts to betray effort.

Then again, you could also say that about multiple candles. (Multiple tealights are obviously out. You may as well buy a bunch of cats and potpourri at that point.)

Candles are difficult because they are potentially cheesy, but I love firelight, so this is worth further thought.

If you do not go overboard like in that pic it is fine. Can't be too bright if its colored light or it looks like in a brothel. Natural colored light as in yellow or orange-ish, even red-ish is okay and can be brighter.
If you actually want use out of them colored light can be acceptable, I have an orange backlight for my monitor, if I turn on my other lights, which are very warm, the LEDs turn into a red-ish purple. Which keeps my eyes from getting stressed and it still looks pleasing.

Complete Red light for rooms at night are also acceptable, since you keep most of your nightvision. Very useful and cheap.

If you do it right, LEDs can greatly improve atmosphere.

Disregard all these normal Normans; color changing lights are fantastic if you use them in a really exaggerated way, like to the point of a Refn film. Have you ever tried fucking a girl in extremely red light, it actually changes your perception of the experience, it can make you feel more carnal, like you're fucking a whore. If you are at all sensitive or artistic you'll find that lighting can really dramatically affect your experiences. This works especially well if you watch films with dramatic visuals because you'll develop strong associations to certain lighting schemes. Obviously these should be used only when you're feeling it, not just a regular part of your everyday lighting or they'll just become stale. Think of it like another card in the deck for leveraging feeling out of an experience, like drugs or music.

The picture you posted is probably the most banal way you could use them, but fine if you're doing something practical like preventing eye strain or whatever.

the way to do it is to buy wide candles and put them onto a surface together. Let them burn for a while until the wax melts down around their bases and fuses them together. Shows that its used without having to go for the wine bottle, which i always feels looks a bit shit.
