Maybe give it a while you often hear people say those armaf become better after it's been sprayed for a bit and "some air gets inside" or something.
I think it's pretty nice scentwise, only sometimes the bitteralmond gets a bit synthetic in the drydown. Longevity is not bad but I feel like projection is non existant but that might be just me because I complain about projection on anything that isn't labled as really good/beastmode.

I want to get a winter fragrance, but I'm hesitating between Herod and The One EDP (I've tried and loved both).
What would you guys pick?

Just got this. It's a frag from the 70s, but doesn't smell outdated at all. Has a nice subtle fresh green smell with a hint of spice. Very nice.

I'm new to fragrances, what do fragrance cashier qts mean when they say a fragrance is their "favorite"? I went to a couple of men's fragrance shops and both cashiers pointed out a favorite, and they were qt so it was tempting but then I thought it my mind they must tell that to every fuck who comes in, that they are probably trying to sell something that people don't often buy to thirsty fucks. When I was reading about this, I saw a lot of people compare it to Sauvage. My original thought was "not everything is a fucking knockoff of sauvage" since I read that a lot. But I'll be damned if this doesn't remind me of it. It's a good scent but I need to test it more to give any opinion on longevity (although it's not nearly the monster sauvage is.)

I think the difference is that while the openings are the same, this has a much softer drydown. I find that interesting to say the least, but worth trying since it's so cheap

To be fair the majority of scents labelled with Oud is just an interpretation, usually casmir wood (synthetic wood note) combined with a sandalwood synth like javanol and also maybe a fractionated Cypriol oil. If you want to get the real deal without paying high prices for mediocre grade oud (FDB have decent scents but sending a low resin content lightish grade oud chip alongside it is such a gimmick), try sampling oils made by legit eastern producers feeloud and agar aura would be a good place to start. You can get proper sandalwood oils too.

I've worn it this spring and summer and it has the "old man smell" for the first thirty minutes, the opening is very dry and medicinal with coriander and bergamot. What follows after is timeless and, in my opinion, can be worn by anyone, regardless of age or gender. Basically a really nice blend of citruses, vetiver and tobacco. Reminds me of a combination of expensive soap and freshly cut grass under the heat of a summer sun.

I think it smells like a variation of a modern fresh, clean fragrance albeit with the simplistic, slightly distant, and different tone.

Luca Turin described it as 'cerebral' and I think that's why Vetiver doesn't sell well in where I live.

Update: Well I was legitimately worried about the longevity meme but it's been pretty alright on me ~8-9 hours later. I don't know if it is really projecting anymore but it's pretty detectable when I lean a bit in to my wrists or chest.

However, I'm not into the drydown. It's almost balsamic in nature to me, and the amber and tobacco is really heavy to me. Which I find to be a shame because the opening is gorgeous, but i just don't think this is doing it for me. I might give it another spin on a later date because it's still a good pure winter scent, but I'm sure I have some frags that would do what it does better

Definitely like l’homme and Kouros, but weak performance. White has a nice fresh light woody smell to it. First instinct seems great - fresh with a blast of melon which softens it up for easy wear

Hawas is a bit too loud/strong for me, might wear it sparingly. Malt has a nice fruity, boozy smell to it that’s pleasing. But the performance on my skin seems meh and I live in Florida. Worth having a bit around though. I’m more interested to try out ultra zest.

Midnight in Paris I hate. Has a powdery, rubbery balloon-like, soapy smell to it. And it doesn’t go away easily. Spicebomb seriosuly just reminds me of axe spray deodorant.

What do you guys recommend based off the ones I like? Something that smells “well-balanced,” but still fresh and not too mature/masculine just like l’homme, white, a&f, and Kouros? I also ordered a sample of parfums de Marly Layton based off another anons rec since I like La Nuit so much. thanks

Gotcha. If you do want to try 1st gen. vintage, your best bet is to find a mini 15ml/0.5oz bottle. Got a bunch when they were around $15 apiece, but they're going for ~$65 on eBay now... The sprayer doesn't put out much per spray, and you don't need many.
