My mom has a brain tumor, and now also breast cancer, so I've been considering getting a tattoo with a grey and pink ribbon, without it looking like a standard boring empty gesture. So I've also been considering including family related things, like our unofficial family flower, which is a white gardenia.
Does anyone have any ideas for inspiration or other things I could consider including? Also where it would be best placed on my body? It would be my first tattoo, and I think my arm or leg might be a good spot.

It will look like a splodgy mess in 10 years, especially if you add a messy heavy rose. Look at old school Sailor and Russian prisoner tattoos - the key is the negative space, so that when the ink is blurry and fucked up after some years and skin regeneration etc, it's still recognisable.

Get your artist to draw out your work. Keep that drawing by your bedside, look at it every day for at least a year before you got tattooed. Imagine if you had to wear the same Graphic T shirt every day for the rest of your life, it would fucking suck if you got bored of the design.

You might be misjudging my motivations and philosophy. I'm not interested in killing myself at the gym, or at work for that matter (I turn down offers to go full time). Is it desirable to be fitter and to have more money? Yes, almost certainly. Is it worth doing things I don't enjoy over things I do enjoy to achieve it? I don't think it is. The content of the tattoos isn't a big reveal of personality, they're just a reflection of what I like to look at. There's no higher goal than that.
