I love tats,

But I swear I've never seen ANYONE pull off an effay tat.

All mine are pretty specific, and well hidden under basic clothing. The only place I feel like they work exposed to the world is at the beach.

My friend has some big art pieces on their thighs and shoulders, but to me it's at the point where it just looks like to much is going on.

If there's one thing I hate, it's people whose skin looks like a bunch of notebook doodles ala Harry Stiles

The woodblock style is really cool but dots and lines do not hold up over time. Eventually you'll start to see your lines fading into each other because skin damages and stretches. American Traditional or solid blackwork (think Polynesian) is really what holds up best over time. I have an eye of Horus that was done in the woodblock style it's 6 years old now and you can barely tell it was shaded in that style

The first time I used Talens indian ink (I heard it's really dark and long lasting) and it worked great. It still looks very dark and I did it about 6 years ago. No touch ups. The second time I used Winsor & Newton indian ink, because that's the ink I happened to have at home and it turned out the same.

I didn't really do much for aftercare. I just rinsed out the excess ink and the blood with water, let it dry and obviously refrained from touching it.

Just go slowly when you do lines and wipe the ink off everytime you poke your skin. Don't try to immitate a gun. My friend did this and his lines look like shit.

To be honest, it didn't age well as I thought. It doesn't look as near as clear as the photo above now. I actually fucked up and washed my arm with tap water in Seoul when cleaning it and forgot the water is not drinkable ( I'm from Aus ), mixture of that and extreme cold weather and had to keep covered all the time meant that I ended up with a minor infection.

I saved most of the ink but I'm going back the end of the year for a touchup.

I've found that my dotwork tattoos ( the face ) have aged well, and heal really quick (one week) and didn't hurt when getting it done. It barely stung at all.

Also, placement plays a factor in longetivity. Though I don't expose my tattoos to sun much, the skin on my outer forearm is tougher and didn't hold the ink as well. Inner forearm, in my experience, holds the ink very well.

I also got it done in one single ten hour session because I flew home the next day, and my skin was probably too traumatised to hold all the ink. It ended up scabbing for 3 weeks before it peeled

Not including people with completely blacked out arms. You'll realise they always look shit and patchy when healed. Ever coloured something in roughly and seen the area where the ink from the marker changes direction? That's what all blacked out limbs look like when healed
