I'm ready to buy a sewing machine and could use some direction in my purchase. I'm willing to blow up to $100 on something that will work for school next year. I hear that Brother is a trusted brand but I really know nothing about it. Any suggestions?

Gonna bump with great pieces I enjoy...

I'm a complete novice when it comes to textiles btw. My only experience in working with fabric is in screen printing.

This is a good one, especially for beginners.

Bump with some companies that I've seen have good male-oriented patterns of basic stuff

Brooklyn Tweed has some nice looking knitting patterns

Thread Theory Design has really good looking patterns for basics.

Walden by Colette Patterns.

HotPatterns.com has some okay stuff.

Merchant & Mills has some okay looking patterns, but they're hella old-timey-inspired ones.

Burda has some okay ones but you've gotta trudge through miles of shit ones to find the decent ones.

check the /cgl/ archive too.

Should we create this thread once a month or something? Making clothes does take time and that time interval gives you enough time to make a project and show it in the thread.

Anybody know where I can find a pattern for a garment like this? It's called a birrus britanicus.

I apparently live in a third world shit-hole where high rise for men is completely unobtainable. Would sizing up+ intense cropping work for a loose fit?

>> No.11818783

In case I wasn't clear, I'd be belting it at the waist to simulate high rise pants, maybe undoing the seam and cutting a triangle shape off one side of each leg to create a slight bell bottom just above the waist
