I was a VW guy in my 20's. I'd still spend a ton on a super clean late Mk2 Tornado Red or Montana Green VR6 swap... if I could find one.

How do I pick one? Depends, really. The M3 is great, being "modern". With the rest it depends what I have in storage at the time or what's not in some state of maintenance or upgrade. The list never ends, but having all these older cars that someone who can read a service manual can actually work on is what's important to me. Being able to get your hands dirty for a few hours a week after working with your brain all week is highly cathartic. I recommend it to any guy who sits in an office or has a 'professional' career.

I've had a few Mk2's, many years ago. GTIs loved to be thrown around like rag dolls. I knew a guy at the time with a Mk2 GLI with a VR6 swap that felt like nothing else I'd experienced at the time.

I've had a soft spot for Corrados and Sciroccos too.

Always got an eye open. Best part about being out here from New York is that nothing really rusts out here. Shit that is long gone back east you'll see out here in abundance. And cheap.

British Columbia is also a really amazing hot spot for picking up stuff out of Japan for some strange reason. Add to that the weak Canadian dollar, and there are tons of bargains to be had.
