yeah, just my experience but iron on ones tend to start peeling at the edges at about 1-2 months of wearing, plus they're more likely to damage the fabric. I imagine ironing on works better on bags but I'd still suggest sewing

Is this "I have letter patches that I want to sew on using a special (jagged) edging" or "I want to both embroider letters followed by a jagged edging"? It's a _huge_ difference in time investment.

I don't do embroidery enough to have any good answer/suggestions to your question/project, and I know exactly what you mean about lack of tutorials.
Once you do something "modern" with textile arts you're really left to your own. Chances are that there is none for exactly your project. You might find something useful by broadening your search even further but you seem to already have done that.
Do you have/can you find any patches with similar large letters to see how they're made, if you can use the same stitch length etc?

My other best suggestion is to find a forum that specializes in embroidery or textile arts (with an active embroidery subforum), or a local shop, to ask. I find many on such forums/shops extremely helpful. (On 4chan /cgl/ is probably your best bet but I doubt it's useful)

In all honesty, even if it's boring, I'd suggest you do just a little practise before starting, as good embroidery is harder than it looks (making even stitches etc). Also there are several different threads with different thickness to them, like you could even use crochet yarn to save time. Thinner thread - looks better, but takes fucking ages.

I have a certian delima with patches. Having a service background I feel like I cannot wear a patch I didnt earn. Yeah I suppose the consensus is that a patch is a patch and you dont really need to have a deep affilition with whatever your patch represents just as long as you like it. I was kind of hung up on the notion of authenticity. It really is a mute point, I always thought it would be more meaningful to have patches you are really connected with/earned.
