I went to the Rick store in LA this weekend and cried. It was so beautiful.

Right can any of you double check and legit check these Geo's that just arrived. 99% sure theyre fake but theyre fuckin good ones at that.

I compared them to another pair I have and this is what I found

I would attribute the the rigidity and zipper issues to rough-out being a slightly stiffer material, and the silhouette of the toebox seems spot on. The calfskin lining looks like some high quality shit.

The one thing throwing me off completely is that strap on the tongue. Uneven stitching and it looks the wrong size/texture relative to my Geos.

Without seeing them in person I'm leaning towards legit. Possibly summon Nahk for the final decision though.

That's quite a statement. The quality is still very good. Leather quality gets to be a wash when the shoes use treated leathers for an effect. Also, the dye or treatment used might leave a scent that is unusual but shouldn't be offensive. The stitching looks not bad on those, if you want to see sloppy stitching check out his sneakers from before 2006. While I love Guidi leather and they make a great shoe, they aren't exactly the most precise either (in fact I just got my back zips back from the cobbler due to a number of issues). There are a lot of imperfections to Guidi boots that make them attractive, Geobaskets do not have that luxury.

This has a complicated answer.

First, I do rarely pay retail for designer clothing. The rare instances where I do is because the price is right, I know the item will sell, and I know I would pay that much (or close to it) second hand anyway. An example of this are the prisoners in an XS. Sells out every season. I bought a pair second hand around Vicious for 300, wore them for a year, sold them for 350, bought a brand new pair this season from Hervia for 398. I could have gotten them for cheaper off Seven if I had waited, but instead I got Pods. Technically "retail" but their prices are really low. So knowing where to shop is one thing.

The second part is knowing what the market is like. If you know the going rate on the second hand market is at or near to what you're paying for an item, you've lowered your risk and can effectively buy and experiment with different clothing indefinitely.This is a huge boon for me, considering how much I love clothing and want to truly experiment with different designers and manufacturers. Owning a piece of clothing really helps me to understand more about different process, techniques, fabrics, styles, cuts, et cetera. This is the basis for don't talk clothing, truly. It's thrilling to find incredible deals on rare pieces of clothing while curating a selection to sell. Along the way we get to handle and incredible selection of garments from different designers (including grails like early Raf knits, Undercover jackets, Rick hammered lamb leathers, et cetera) that I wouldn't otherwise risk buying solely for myself. Sometimes I get lucky and stumble onto something I truly love that I didn't otherwise wouldn't have... Yang Li is a good example of that.

It is legit but with a sketchy production history. Vulpinari was in charge of producing Rick Owens before Olmar and Mirta. But the sketchy part is that they have kept producing some small batches of those old pieces (like the one you show) because they have the patterns and they are also still using the RO logo.
