Type "Gore-Tex," "waterproof" and the name of any reputable outdoor gear manufacturer, "hardshell," "softshell," "Schoeller," "Polartec," etc. into eBay and be pleasantly surprised.

If you're super poor, check the lowest rent thrift shops in poor areas and mid-tier (like Goodwill) thrift shops in rich areas, and see if any food banks near you also have clothing distribution programs, or if there's a free store in your area.

You're not going to find a White Mountaineering BLK shell unless you're super lucky, but you'll be able to find functional and beautiful /out/core clothes.

>>10333917
Yes, but your local tailor can't do it without fucking up the membrane. Send it to Rainy Pass Repairs if you don't have a local outdoor repair shop; they're the place used by both Gore and REI for warranty repairs.

It's pricey, but you're paying for special skills and equipment. They'll give you an estimate.

Personally, I drink coffee the most, then mate, then other kinds of tea.

And sure, there's yuppies who stumble into legit gear and never push it, but 1) those cats are usually in TNF or Arc'Teryx, not exotic Japanese fashion shells, 2) my guess is that most gear above the price point paid by people who want something to keep them dry walking to the subway actually gets used well, including stuff sold in technical fabrics as fashion, and 3) a lot of this stuff is designed for intensive use in cities as well.

Like, if you don't drive and don't want to futz with an umbrella, you need at least a hardshell to live in many cities without depending on cars.

Plan on getting a Poler or Mt Rainier bag next
Have a few pairs of Carhartt Ripstop pants but my Topo Ripstop pants are fucking awesome. Comfy, nice pockets, far and away my favorite pants

If the Barbour x White Mountaineering parka wasn't so nice I wouldn't be spreading the gospel....but seriously you can find it in every size I don't think those sold at all (at regular price)

The fact that you didn't explicitly mention mate gave me a headache
