This will probably sound lame in comparison to most people's stories, but here it goes. My friend and I were riding about on an old mountain dirt road (Mt Taylor outside of Grants NM). This mountain is pretty infamous for having Navajo witch rituals and all kinds of crazy stuff in the past. Specifically the north side. No one really lives on the north side. And there's really only a few rednecks on the south and tiny tiny village at the summit, again on the south.

We were on high up on the northside, seeing how far this road goes. We ran into a few barricades, mostly just branches and rocks we moved out of the way. I mean we were far up and had been on this trail for an hour. We wanted to turn back awhile ago but the path was so narrow we'd have to go in reverse most of the way back so we were looking for a turnabout or a place where there more room to turn around. We finally found one but decided to get and take a piss.

I turned the ignition off but left the light on. Something we'd usually do while toke up. We got out and posed on opposite sides of the road. It was very silent and the wind was barely blowing. I remember this specifically because I thought at the time "damn there ain't shit out here". I kinda just stood there enjoying the night and the view. (It was pretty dark but you could see the stars and some valleys.)

A really weird feeling came over me suddenly, just like a odd unnerving sense. I got kinda scared so I called out to my friend to see if he was done. He joined me in looking at the view, didn't say a whole lot besides daaammmmn. It was a nice view.

Ten seconds or so passed and a bizarre whistling noise came out of nowhere. my friend and I were like wtf? It was kinda low for a whistle, still high of course but like I don't know. We glanced around but couldn't see anything but black in the forest. Then we heard the whistle again, this time in a different pitch. We stood there shocked and the whistling kept going. It didn't sound far off. We walked back to car trying to keep our cool, at least I was. The whistling kept going until.i opened the car do and it stopped with a loud sudden build up of pressure. Like a yell that capped off as a shout or a roar.

I turned the car back on, turned around and speed off as fast as I could. We were both shaking like fuck and trying to figure out what it was.

I still don't know what it what was. I thought it was the wind but it had too odd of a rythm and too powerful to be a bird in the end. It was low. I don't know how to describe it really. Just that it was loud and changed in pitch. The build up at the end scared me the most.

That side of the mountain is abandoned. So it'd be pretty odd.if there was some camper whistling at 3 am. That happened 4 year ago and I still don't know what to make of it.
