As far as Taschen goes they are pretty darn weak.

The book was like 20 USD, so you can't expect the full quality of, say, Sumo. That said, the book is pretty decent for the price; the photography is mostly good and high resolution (there is some blurry shit included though) and the presentation is nice. I Really like the size and will probably get the Rick Owens and Raf Simons books.

Also, I'd say this is pretty decent for a Taschen book; they sure make some really shit quality ones (their film books? Eww).

I don't think so, I've seen several of this series at bookstores and none of them had sleeves.

Plastic sleeve.

This is a 25 euro taschen Book, pretty much all of those are printed in the EU, mostly Germany, this is from China.

SUMO is overrated hype, bought it in 2002 for 900 bucks, sold two years ago for 9,500, inflation.

Ah well, they are large and feature some cool pics.

Bookcase is by genre then author. That section is overflow Taschen area + one or two heavy design books.

>>10274394

I just wish they made SUMO size without them being limited edition or priced outrageously.

>>10274402
I do miss some buildings in that book but it definitely has some great buildings in it.

The Pink fashion ones? Yes but not stellar, good for the price although slightly below Taschen average. Can't hold a candle to Shigeru Ban or the Coop Himmelblau next to it, those are fucking amazing.

I'll grant you Uncle Terry, but if you seriously think that Avedon is any of what you said, you really don't know his work at all or are simple retarded.

Fashion photography is not the only genre I buy. I own some Magnum books (including Contact Sheets), Genesis by Salgado, Exiles and Gypsies by Koudelka (Gypsies is fucking incredible, by the way), HCB books, Capa, Eve Arnold, Ansel Adams, etc…

Agreed. Taschen is just nice if you want another coffee table book that's a filler. The designer monographs they do are rather shallow and they're just nice because they're easy to find and in a nice, large format.

>> No.10277124

It really depends on the type of book. The little compendium's from Charlotte and Peter Fiell are very shallow, but then again they are pretty much catalogues.

Then you have books by Philip Jodidio (the really fat ones) that go pretty darn deep as far as design goes.

Then again I like Taschen's shallow and non-judgemental approach to describing design, I have quite a few books that are the complete opposite and usually only reflect the narrow opinionated mind of a single writer who probably had some beef with an architect after a cocktail party.
