I get where the guy from the other thread is coming from, but I don't exactly agree. Same with your post OP, GATs used to be used for military purposes but now has become casual footwear. The SFBs on the other hand, are designed for tactical use and look the part as well. I guess what I'm saying is, it really all depends on what the item in question looks like and is it suitable for everyday casual use.

Army Infantry here, no one actually in the military would give two fucks if you wore those. Go ahead man they just look kinda gay in civillian clothes when you live near a military base. I could see them working in NYC or some fashion oriented town.

Got my pair a week ago. Have gotten a few looks, a few compliments, 1 person (an ex I hadn't seen in years) asking me if I was military.

Was nervous when they were new, but did some hiking on the weekend (~16 miles), and the feel great now broken in (comfy as fuck). It dirtied them up real nice too, which I think is the biggest thing. Clean / new they look too military, all dirty they just look like boots.

Back when I was sixteen I used to hang out at this local auto shop that was run by mostly retired military personnel.

I remember when I first started going there, I wore this O.D. green field jacket that was obviously styled after a military garment. I'm pretty sure it didn't have any insignia on it, but I distinctly remember walking through the bay door and everyone simultaneously giving me the side eye.

At first I didn't know what the issue was until the shop manager walked up to me and promised that if I wore anything like that again, that he would personally beat the shit out of me.

I haven't worn anything remotely suggestive of any military affiliation since. It's really not worth the risk.
