Any /fa/gs know much about watches?

Thinking about buying this Tag Heuer aquaracer way1111 for $1700 AUD, in a blue face. Thoughts on its design? It's as cheap as Tags go.

lets think about this conceptually.

You want a watch, a statement piece, something to raise your esteem/taste/personal value. im also guessing you don't want a watch to just tell time.

So why scrape the bottom of the barrel of what your concept is? why not save for a little longer, and get that piece that enriches your life more? Why settle for "as cheap as tags go"?

As for the design- I think it looks OK. thats all, nothing especially mind blowing or grabbing. would i be able to tell the difference between this watch and a much cheaper watch? No.

But you're buying for yourself, to vitalize the way YOU feel. Why not commit to something thats not bottom of the barrel? I feel like if you buy this you'll always have that "its nice, but its the cheapest they had" feeling in your head.

I think you deserve better, man.

Thanks anon, I don't really make that much money but I wanted to purchase this because I would like to get into watch collecting, I think this watch is a good place to start. As my paycheck increases (hopefully) I will aim to purchase better watches

Not a big fan of that bezel, though it's a nice watch. Mind you, I'm saving for this. I would just buy a replica, but I can't bring myself to do that.

I don't understand why you dont' just get an orient mako for $100, it looks almost indistinguishable from that shit in terms of quality and nobody who sees you on the street will know what you paid for it

It grew on me after a while. It helps that the lustre of the finish is not too attention-grabbing. I want a versatile dress watch that's on the "sporty" end so I can wear it in almost any social situation

Sales dude here and quite a few people I come across are easily impressed by what's on your wrist ha

True. Though I've noticed a lot of people gravitate towards either well known expensive branding, or really weird crap, like fedora skeletons or massive pleb divers.

I remember I used to have an inexpensive, but nice, Citizen dress watch that I wore when I worked "high end" retail. People would always ask me what it was, saying how great it looked, and then slowly start to cringe when I'd tell them it was a Citizen. That job was sort of the turning point for me in realizing how many fucks certain people give regarding who made what you're wearing.

The important thing is that a well chosen $100-200 AUD citizen watch can look as good as any more expensive one. Perfect stock gap.
