Any shoe can be a slip on if the laces are loose. Honestly a good bet would be a current pair of Nike shoes. None of those shitty, bright basketball shoes or whatever, but just a clean pair of roshes or max 90s or something. Not a huge price, not a big jump from your usual clothing and generally very popular, especially with people who don't follow fashion or w/e.

I'll put it to you this way.
My situation is bad enough that my style probably doesn't matter.

For most people here, improving your appearance serves a purpose, since it is often the only criteria other people have by which to judge you.

No improvement in clothing is going to overpower the impression I make.
I've never felt the need to dress well because people will always treat me with excessive kindness. I think they feel a combination of pity and guilt. Their instinctual reaction is to pretend like they don't notice I'm the way that I am. As you can imagine, I see through this dynamic and it tends to make me feel more alienated.

It's not like I just realized I dress like shit, but I've been too much of a pessimist to think that it makes a difference.
This is starting to change, though.
I'm basically doing an experiment to see if I've underestimated the importance of fashion, even for someone like me. I want to do whatever I can to stop having my ass kissed. When people feel the need to give you special treatment, it puts up psychological barriers that prevent an actual connection which could lead to a genuine friendship. I just want to stop being humored all of the time.

TL;DR -
I have accepted the possibility that by dressing poorly, I increase the amount of pity I get from people and it is my own fault.

well he's obviously not a quadriplegic if he's typing so I'm wondering if he's in a wheelchair due to a weight problem. A paraplegic shouldn't have to rely on others to put on his shoes. And if he's ridiculously overweight, the ideal solution would be losing weight otherwise dressing better would be futile. And if he's physically unable to lose the weight (that is IF he's overweight) then this post was completely pointless.

Maybe as you gradually form deeper connections with the people who humor you then they won't put on such a front.

Why not get a nice pair of loafers that are easy to take on and off?

Get a pair of penny loafers, bruv. You don't need to get fancy with the clothing as well, just go with something basic. You can go a few notches above Wal Mart and get a few fits from the GAP for cheap. You'll look better, and for that you'll feel better.
